Scope and role of Civil engineers
Here in the article I give some point on scope and importance of Civil engineering in different fields and how it is help in the infrastructural development of not only our country but also to the world.
|
Scope of civil engineering Civil engineering is the oldest and classical branch of Engineering and also have an important role up to the life end. It mainly involves the planning, design, construction and maintenance of structures such as bridges, roads, canals, dams, tunnels, airports, railway station, harbors and house and multi star buildings.
House hold building Shelter is the primary need of civilization. The cottage built with bamboos and leaves can be taken as the early civil Engineering Construction carried out to satisfy the needs for house. Over the years there has been a awful growth in the field of civil Engineering to provide high quality house which are safe, functional, captivating and economical. Flats and apartments are constructed in urban areas to provide living place to large number of people. Multi storeyed buildings and sky-carpers are planned and constructed to provide office space, shopping malls, cyber centers, hotels and restaurants etc in the city.
Irrigation Irrigation is defined as the adulterate application of water to land for the purpose of farming. Civil Engineering gives big scope for irrigation by constructing barrages, dams, canals, well, distributing water plants. Very large areas of dry land have been successfully irrigated and green revolution has become a reality in India by this. Irrigation is always a great impact in the harvest. So Civil engineers should be very much aware of this to get their job in that field. And it also help to increase crop development in our country.
Transportation Providing good transportation facilities is also a part of civil engineering. Good chain of roads, highways and expressways are necessary for movement of men and materials for various purpose. Which should show the development of the country. Railways, Airways and water ways are also always needed for overall development of any country. Only through this we can achieve better development and we can trade and share our products to various parts of the world.
Water treatment Water is an important need for all living organisms. Drinking water supply to the towns and cities is a propel part in Civil engineering. Natural water available in lakes and rivers is not suitable for drinking without apt water treatment. Hence large water treatment plants have been made and operated to supply potable water to the public for their drinking. In addition, waste water generated in the city has to be taken out and disposed after providing suitable water treatment, which is necessary to reduce the pollution.
Flood control Flood control and environmental protections are other areas of civil engineering have get its own great role. Dams and levees are constructed to alleviate floods. Waste water treatment plants are made to forbid pollution of surface of the earth and ground water resources. This is the major field since the calamity can be come in any time. So civil engineer have get large responsibility to take extra care on this.
Role Of Civil Engineers A civil engineer is an engineer who deals with planning, designing, implementing the design to a structure and maintenance of various types of Construction work. He should be smart in various fields such as surveying, analyzing, estimating, construction scheduling and construction management of the different works for making a building or else. A civil engineer will involve in various engineering activities such as listed below:
- surveying preparation of estimate to building purpose
- Planning and designing and construction of houses, apartments, office building, commercial establishments etc and its maintenance.
- Planning, designing and implementing of transportation facilities such as highways, railways, and airways in a suitable manner .
- Construction of ports and harbors, railway stations, bus and truck terminals, airports and helipads for the receiving of various transporting vehicles.
- Construction of dams and canals for irrigation, drinking water supply, flood control purposes and also for electricity development.
- Planning, design and construction of pollution control facilities such as sewage treatment plants in all the parts of the urban and other areas
