Placement season has begun in various colleges across India. With a number of companies lined up and the desire to get into a good company has developed a lot of pressure on the students. To lessen this pressure, here is an article to give some tips for an effective interview.
The basic motive of an interview is to scrutinize and judge by critically analyzing a candidate. Here, a good first impression is crucial. And since there are no second chances on making a good first impression, it is important that you do it right before an assumed perception of you is formed.
In forming a first impression, every little detail matters. Handshakes and body posture reveal the little nuances of our personality and since interviewers need to evaluate who you are after spending only a fraction of day with you, they rely on their observation of these details. So, mainly you need to focus on your body language, gestures, posture, facial nods, eye contact, appearance and expressions. The ability to understand and use non-verbal communication is a powerful tool that can help a job seeker to connect well with the interviewer, express what they really mean and build a better understanding during the interview process.
The various aspects to improve in are:
Energy and confidence :
You may have a perfect resume, but if you walk into an interview without any energy or confidence, no one will grant you a second thought. So, keep yourself positive and confident. Make sure you have a smiling face.
Handshake :
Handshake should always be firm. But do take care that it is not so firm that you squeeze the other person's hand or should not be limp. Also your hands must not be sweaty. If your hands sweat, take proper care of those before entering the interview room.
Posture :
Your posture should always be straight. Stand, walk and sit straight. Do not bend while walking. Straight posture shows confidence.
Eye contact :
Make proper eye contact with the interviewer but do not stare at him or her. If there are more than one interviewer, make eye contact with all during answering. Never stare at the wall or look down while answering.
Companies always want to grow horizontally and vertically. So they require employees who can take different roles and handle dynamic situations easily. When a company transitions from small cap to mid cap to global enterprise, they need managers at every level. Hence, a person's confidence and ability to lead matters a lot.
Hence, it is extremely important to be on your best behavior and reveal your true personality through your body language as well as words.
