Primary Care: Enhanced Medical Management Services (EMMS)

Enhanced Medical Management Services (EMMS) provide primary care, medical management, support for adherence to medications, partner counseling and referral services, positive prevention, harm reduction, education (including STDs and hepatitis) and support for HIV+ individuals.

You can get care by calling one of the EMMS providers listed here by region and ask for the HIV Coordinator.

Free Medications
For access to free medications for low income individuals, Massachusetts has a HIV Drug Assistance Program (HDAP). For more information about HDAP, call 1-800-228-2714 or go to their website.

If you have your own health insurance
You will likely need to find a HIV doctor who is covered by your insurance plan. Contact your insurance company to get a list of HIV specialists in your area. If you already know of a health care provider that specializes in HIV, contact their office to see if they are accepting new patients as well as your insurance.

One needs "HAART- Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy" or Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART)
This consists of various antiviral drugs which act synergistically against HIV & prevent drug resistance.
AIDS is accompanied by many opportunistic infections like
1)tuberculosis- this needs " anti-tubercular treatment"
2)fungal infections - of skin,oral cavity ( oral candidiasis)
& needs antifungal treatment
3)Some tumors like "kaposi's sarcoma" are also associated with AIDS
