Top 7 inventions of the twentieth century

Personal computer

Can somebody imagine the world without computers today( and I am not talking only about Facebook!). Computers have become a major part of our life today. The use of basic computers had started during the second world war but there was no personal computer available during that time. In 1976 Steve Wogeniak and Steven Jobs created the first computer system for personal use in their garage! This was a pioneer for other personal computers to come the world over. Think how many tasks the personal computer can do, many people reply on personal computers for their livelihood today.

Nuclear energy

This technology changed the world and helped in getting alternative energy requirements. This has become a major requirement for India today. Nuclear energy does not cause any environmental damage and has much scope for many applications. The only requirement today is that nuclear energy should be used for peaceful purposes and not misused. The only drawback with this energy is that if it is misused intentionally or unintentionally, it can make the entire area radioactive which is dangerous for humans and animals.

Television

In India television channels are growing at an alarming rates causing bandwidth problems as the satellites do not have adequate resources to tackle the data of all the channels. But the craze for the latest television sets is showing no signs of reducing. In most Indian homes whether urban or rural there is a television set, whether any other electronic gadget is absent. One can learn about everything on television from news to study channels to entertainment. 'Smart Tvs' have come in the market today which can also be used for internet based applications. No home is complete without a TV today.

The Aircraft

During the 19th century, the locomotive train was invented which made the world a small place. Subsequently in the twentieth century came the aircraft which made the world even more smaller. This enabled people to travel from one end of the globe to another in a matter of hours. Aircrafts are used for a number of other tasks today like sprinkling water on farms, transportation of goods across the world and a source of weaponry by the Air Force.

Rocket science

It cannot be said that rockets are a product of the twentieth century as rockets were manufactured in China as long as three thousand years ago. Some Greek, Roman and Indian rulers used rockets too. But in those days the rockets were small and used only for the purpose of scaring an army. The real change in rocket science came in the twentieth century. This science has developed rapidly. Today there are long range missiles to space shuttles carrying astronauts and satellites to space which run on rocket technology. Had there been no rockets, it would not be possible to send satellites into space. There would have been no GPS systems and this would have meant no mobile communications or flight navigation systems.

Internet

After the great invention of computers came the internet. Just think about how small and cheaper the world has become due to the internet. Using the net people all around the world can stay in touch with each other and share files, blogs etc. There is no urban person who does not use the internet for one task or the other. It has made information reachable at fingertips and has a host of other benefits which every person today already knows.

Radio

There are a number of radio stations today which spread announcements, entertainment and music to the entire country from villages to cities. During the second world war radio was the sole entertainment for families. Those days people were as much addicted to radios as people are to Television, DVDs and the internet today. Radio entertainment was on a decline in India but FM radio services has revived the radio craze among the youth.
