About Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation
Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation is a passenger transport system running by Gujarat Government for travel within Gujarat and across the neighbouring state. It has its beginning from the day of formation of Gujarat state, i.e. from 1st May, 1960 which is also the formation date of Maharashtra State which was combined with Gujarat before 1960. GSRTC has 228 bus stations, 125 depots and 15 Divisions. GSRTC contains 8000 working buses and 1554 pick-up stands. GSRTC uses Luxury, Semi-luxury, Express, Ordinary, Intercity Express, A.C, Sleeper and VOLVO type of buses. GSRTC has workforce of around 50,000 people.
The names of 16 Divisions of Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation contains Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Amreli, Godhra, Bharuch, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Himmatnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Nadiad, Mehsana, Palanpur, Surat and Valsad.
Services provided by Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation
GSRTC provides many services which includes service related to 'Intercity services'. This service ensures connectivity between two stations/cities. Second is 'mofussil services' which includes rural as well as urban areas. 'Insterstate service' provided by GSRTC ensures connectivity between two neighbouring state which includes Gujarat-Maharashtra, Gujarat-Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat-Rajasthan. GSRTC also provides parcel services which does the same work as provided by private courier services.
GSRTC also provides some special services which includes 'Festival Services' and 'Marriage bus' in which GSRTC give their bus for private use if any one of Gujarat state citizen needs it. Other services which includes connectivity to industrial zones, schools and colleges nearby major towns. GSRTC provides special bus service for this purpose. GSRTC also gives bus for private purpose like pilgrim and other work.
Use of Information technology by GSRTC
In India, GSRTC is the first to use facility like GPS based bus tracking and monitoring system to track the bus and its location in service to passenger. GSRTC uses "Conductor Way Bill Accounting System" at many depots across Gujarat. GSRTC system also issues student and daily passes by use of computerized pass issue system and this implementation works fine till date after its implementation. Gujarat State Wide Area Networking (GSWAN) provides connectivity between central office, central stores and all divisional offices. Many computerized system which use E-governance system like laboratory testing analysis for central store, Pay bill and Provident Fund system, GSRTC Online timetable, Tendering made easy by use of e-tendering services, Attendance system use Bio matrix technology, GSRTC online also gives facility to book/cancel ticket online by use of internet portal
One can get GSRTC timetable online by visiting official website of GSRTC and after going to timetable tab, one need to provide these details as per figure show below. The details include station from where you want to start your journey and station where you want to do the journey and one need to mention type of buses because different buses have different timetable. GSRTC has Luxury, Semi-luxury, Express, Ordinary, Intercity Express, A.C, Sleeper and VOLVO type of buses which gives different facility to use as per rules and regulation.

Now, person who want to travel by GSRTC bus services, can also book their ticket online by going to online portal of GSTRC (http://www.gsrtc.in/GSRTCOnline/). First one needs to register free at this site and then we can avail the online booking facility. Once we log in, we get different options like E-Ticket booking, E-Ticket cancellation, Modify Profile, view-E-Ticket booking history and Change password. To start book the ticket online, one should use E-Ticket booking and view booked ticket history and print the ticket, one should use E-ticket booking history.
