In nineteen century, out religion and social and normal degradation become prominent due to the western fusion in our society. And from that the change started. Rammohon Roy tried to change the society through a new religion, Derojio's group tried by attacking the Hinduism to change it. But Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar only concentrated on the social and educational system.
According to his belief, only education can change the thoughts of the society. That's why he started educational reform. His main goal was to spread the utility of education to the grass root level of the society. That's why he started teaching in mother tongue, and also started writing text books in Bengali. He also wanted to clear the unscientific effects of the society and that's why he emphasizes on western mathematics, philosophy and science in the educational system.
As his early life was spent in village, he was more aware about the pains and sufferings of women. To save these suffering women he started to educate them. He established many model girl schools by spending his own hard earned money. In the same way others were eager to do something in this regard, he always helped them. In 1849 he helped to establish 'Hindu Female School', which is now a day’s famous as Bethun School.
Along with female education, he continued social reforms. The main activity of him was the remarriage of the widows. He also started protests against marriage at lower age that means minors. Due to his untried efforts British Govt. passed the widow remarriage act in the year 1956.
According to above details we can come to the point that he established humanity over religion. He put the example of serving the mankind. He never looked at Indian history without respect. Actually he wanted to make a fusion or punch up of eastern and western cultures. He wanted to make social reforms through the educational reforms.
