Excellent Implementations For A Common Man In The Information Technology Sector

In this article I am going to put some light on some excellent implementations in the information technology sector during the session 2011-2012 that I think are very useful for a common man in the hectic life of today’s fast going world.

Information technology has given solutions to many problems by designing and implementing software applications of excellent quality. This world is very big but internet and web based applications has made it smaller and smarter. It hardly matters in which geographic location are you, you can interact with your near and dears very easily with just an internet connection and an email account. There are number of applications which we use for different purposes. Here I am going to discuss just few very important IT implementations of the session 2011-2012 that I think are very helpful for a common man.

Parents are usually very much concerned about their child's vaccination schedule but sometimes due to unawareness of the schedule they use to miss the timely vaccination. Mykidsvaccines is a very quick and easy to use solution to manage vaccination schedule of the kids. There is a website named www.mykidsvaccinations.com which allows parents to register themselves in less than two minutes in the myvaccination database. After the registration the application reminds the parents through sms or email about the vaccination schedule. Parents can update their accounts very easily by replying to the reminder email or sms.

It is a breakthrough in the world of online banking. Now people can do all the internet banking transactions with just a mobile phone having internet connection. It supports all the operating systems which are used by mobile companies such as IOS, Android, Window, Blackberry etc. Using i-mobile people can do mobile/DTH recharge, air/rail/bus tickets, bill payments etc on the go.

LPG booking centralized:

The application for LPG cylinder booking on the distributors desktop had been in vogue for almost a decade. Using this application a distributor can refill just about 2000 cylinders per day and tracking this data on the desktops of thousands of distributors was a cumbersome task for the company. So Bharat Petroleum Corporation adopted a hybrid approach under which a central server hosts a web application which serves the distributor and sales officers by providing required information. The invoice/ empty returns of cylinders are updated on-line with SAP system which facilitated lorry tracking in addition to inventory control. A new desktop application has been developed for the distributors for synchronizing data with the centralized web server. It allows the company to keep an eye on the movement of cylinders and also offer value- added services to customers like booking requests using methods like SMS, IVRS, Web (ebharatgas.com) etc. A web portal showing delivery of cylinders to end- consumers is also included in this approach.

Project Jyoti:

It's an e-learning solution from Microsoft that intends to bridge the digital divide and impart technical learning to poor unemployed people of India. The program revolves around CTLC (Community Technology Learning Centre) where people of all age groups can come to learn about Information Technology, improve their education and develop their technology skills. So far, Project Jyoti has spread across 27 states and union territories in India and around four lakh individuals have been trained in IT skills in partnership with 14 NGOs.

Centralized Mobile Customer Application Form:

Whenever a customer wants to purchase a new SIM card/mobile number, he has to produce many proofs such as ID proof, Photo id proof, address proof etc. There are chances that a customer might provide fake proofs because regulating agencies finds difficulty in detecting the deviations manually. As a solution the centralized Customer Application Form (CAF) is developed as a web application which aids in verification of forms by regulatory authorities and eliminates manual errors. It provides end-to-end solutions for prepaid & postpaid services of any network provider like MTS, Reliance, Tata etc. Since the base entities of CAF which are to be audited won't be identical for all networks service providers, an image is acquired in different formats like TIF, PDF and JPEG from network providers. The web application can process JPEG type of images easily. This application helps support the regulatory agency to achieve centralized auditing of all customers.
