When we invite our friend/s, normally no such formal format is followed except inviting him specifying the venue, date and time of the reception in body of the letter. If you want to ask your friend only, put his name at the top left corner like:

To
[Friend's name]

But if you are asking a couple, write as:

To
Mr. & Mrs. [Friend's name or surname]

While you are asking complete family of your friend, use

To
Mr. [Friend's name or surname] and your family
