Nowadays user use computer to perform various tasks such as writing , editing, playing games, watching movies and so on. But while performing these task user is not concerned with the internel working of his computer. For example a computer user in a finance department is only concerned with the working of financial applications such as opening, closing filling and storing data and so on and he is not concerned with its internal working. So the internal working of computer is performed by differrent prgrams known as operating system and it is responsible for controlling, managing differrent resources of the computer. Now I am going to write its types according to its features and functions.

Types of Operating System

Today many operating system has been developed. these operating system are different from one another in terms of speed, functions and other features. According to this operating systems are classified into five types:

1)Batch processing operating system: In this operating system, a user can submit task where all the tasks are grouped together and forms a batch. This type of operating system allows only a single program to execute at a time. It is commonly used in forecasting etc purposes.

2)Time sharing operating system: This type of operting system uses time sharing technique in which thje processing of the CPU is divided in small interval which is knon as Time slice. Through these operating system sharing of data and resources becomes easy.

3)Multi-Programming operating system: In this operating system more than one program can be execute at a time. For example, user can work in a word document and also can listen to music at a time. More than two programs can execute easily through multi-programming operating system.

4)Real-time operating system: In this type of operating system various tasks at\re execute in such a way that the result will be obtained instantly. The main function of this operating system is to process input data instantly to get output fast. It is generally used in stock exchange etc.

5)Multi-processor operating system: In this operating system, more than one process can be executed efficiently. This operating helps to improving the performance of the system by executing mre tasks in less time.

These are the types of operating system. Now I am going to talk about the services provided by these operating system.

Services provided by these operating system

1)Program execution: An operating system is responsible for the execution of various user and system programs. The operating system loads the program in the memory, executes the program efficiently and fast.

2)Error detection: An operating system is responsible for detecting different types of errors to maintain its performance.

3)File system manipulation: An operating system is responsible for reading and writing files, deleting files and where a particular file is to dtore etc.

4)Communication: An operating system is responsible for managing the exchange of information between one process to another.

5)Accounting: An operating is responsible for keeping a track on how many usera are logged in, how many processes are there in a memory etc.

6)Information and resource protection: An operating system is responsible for making sure that information and resoources available to the computer are used in a efficient and approprite manner.

All the above mentioned services are performed by different functions of operating system. The function performed by different operating system are different from one another. However, services provides by all the operating system are same.
