Review of Mount Abu as a tourist place

Rajasthan is a beautiful place with a number of monuments, forts, deserts and tourist places. However it has only one hill station which is located at Mount Abu. In this article I will review mount Abu as a tourist place.



 

Introduction to Mount Abu


Mount Abu is a beautiful hill station situated 1,220 Kilometers above the Aravaili hills in Rajasthan. This is called the Shimla of Rajasthan. It is the only hill station of Rajasthan. Mount Abu is also referred to as 'Himalaya putra'. It is named after a powerful snake as per Hindu Mythology. It is said that This snake actually rescued Lord Shiva's cow from death. As per mythology, this was also a point where the Hindu Brahmins performed poojas to appease to appease the gods. Mount Abu is also considered to be place of worship.

Nakki lake in Mount Abu


This is a famous lake in Mount Abu which is surrounded by mountains from all side. It is a beautiful spot. It is the only lake in Rajasthan which is situated at a height of 1,200 Kilometers above the sea level. The lake is also surrounded by trees. The mountains and trees around the lake is a beautiful view in the evenings or night. This lake is considered to be specially created by the gods as per Hindu mythology. Since the gods are supposed to have dug up the lake with the nails of their hands, it was termed 'nakki' lake.

The Jain temples of Dilwara


Mount Abu also has 52 beautiful Jain temples created during the 11th and 13th centuries. These temples are made out of marble. The oldest temple among this is the temple of Vimal Shah. This was created during the year 1031 A.D by the Minister Vimal Shah in the Dilwara village of Mount Abu. Vimal Shah was a Minister under the famous King Bhim Dev of the time. The subsequent temples were created during 1231 A.D. These was created by the successors of the King Bhim Dev. This temple was created after the 22th successor of Mahavira Jain, the founder of Jain religion. One can see wonderful statues of trees, animals and other figures in these temples.

Gomukh Temple


There is a beautiful statue of a cow made from marble at this temple. From the mouth of this temple emanates a water spring which flows all the time. It is said that the 4 major Rajput Clans of Chauhans, Parmar, Solanki and Prathihaar have their origins from this place. One has to walk a kilometer by foot after traveling 3 kilometers by automobile to reach this temple.

Om Shanti Bhavan


This bhavan is considered to be an International Bhavan of peace. A famous temple of the Bramhakumari school of religion is situated here. There is pond here in which 3500 people can take bath together at the same time. There are also tourist spots around the Om Shanti Nagar like the Gandhi Park, Nagarpalike, Raghunath temple, Teresa Park etc.

Guru Shikhar


This spot is located 1722 kilometers above the sea level and located 15 kilometers away from the central region of Mount Abu. This is considered the highest peak of Mount Abu. One can have an excellent view of Mount Abu from this point and it is a worth see. There are two famous temples after Lord Shiva also at this spot. There are tourist buses that can take you to this spot from the main area of Mount Abu. These buses operate from 8 am till dusk. A guide can also be arranged if required.

Achal Garg Fort


This is a historical fort located 8 kilometers away from Abu. It was created by the famous King of Mewar named Kumbha. One can travel to this spot by automobiles. There are some beautiful mini temples located within the fort. Of these, the Achleshwar Mahadev temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is famous. There are also 4 Jain temples within this fort.

How to reach Mount Abu


Mount Abu can be reached by road from all major cities of Rajasthan including Udaipur. There are a number of tourist buses going to Mount Abu from Udaipur and vice versa. The nearest railway station is the Abu Road railway station which is some 29 kilometers away from Mount Abu.
