Almost at every forum in the education arena, the deliberation narrows down to one idea — ‘Get the best out of the boom time in the IT and the ITeS sector’. But despite all efforts, the rejection level hovers around 85 per cent in the IT sector and 90 per cent in the ITeS/ BPO industry.

What could be the reasons? “Lack of soft skills, communication skills and hold over the English language,” says the Centre Head of Ma Foi Academy, Surya Kiran. He adds that most of the students do not have an understanding of the job profile at the ITeS/ BPO sector and are caught in the wrong foot. “Inspired by the glamour of the industry, they attend the interviews without preparations. Everyone should undergo certain amount of preparations, especially in regard to soft skills and should tune up their hold over English,” he says.

To cater to the demands and requirements Ma Foi Academy a subsidiary of Ma Foi, a HR firm, has started a few courses to groom students for the D-day. They have centres in all major cities like Chennai and Hyderabad and have recently launched one in Visakhapatnam.

Giving details on the courses, Head Training and Business Development of the Academy in Visakhapatnam, K. Aditya, says, “We have a few tailor-made courses like career craft, word craft, English craft and retail craft. Each is designed to suit the requirements of the aspirants and the industry.”

This is an industry specific training programme and is designed to groom candidates in the finer aspects that help in making a smooth entry into the corporate world. The course trains candidates in specific areas like analytical thinking and communication skills. It helps in understanding the industry requirement and cultivates the ability to showcase one’s skills at the appropriate time. The modules cover various aspects like career orientation, industry orientation, interview skills, resume writing, communication workshop and personal grooming.

The course covers various aspects like language enhancement, comprehension and conversational skills, vocabulary and grammar, written skills, voice and accent, voice modulation, diction, vowel and consonant sounds and career craft.

English craft

This programme on functional English is aimed at improving reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. It touches various aspects of English grammar, phrases, conversational and written English with role-play.
