ICCR scholarship schemes

• There are altogether 21 scholarships schemes floated by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) from which around 2345 scholarships are awarded to students. This scheme includes students from 86 foreign countries. The scheme comes under the general cultural scholarship scheme (GCSS).
  
• General Cultural Scholarship Scheme, (GCSS) is the most admired schemes of the ICCR for students of foreign origin. Scholarships under GCSS are not offered for pursuing medical courses such as MBBS, BDS and courses leading to a PhD in medicine. Scholarships are however annually offered to students of foreign nations for pursuing the undergraduate, postgraduate degrees and research works at Indian universities.
  
• Procedure for application
  Scholarships offers are advertised in all the Indian national dailies and regional news papers. These are sent to the foreign countries also to their respective Governments via the Indian missions located in the different countries abroad.
  
• Final selection is done by the ICCR after the receipt of nominations. The ICCR doesn’t consider direct applications. International government nominees need filling in the prescribed forms for Scholarships that are available with Indian missions abroad.
  
• While filling in the forms, the candidates will need to point out the course they intend to undertake such for instance
  Certificate/diploma, undergraduate degree, a postgraduate degree, or a doctoral research work etc.
  
• The application should accompany the required number of copies of educational certificates as instructed apart from three copies of passport-size photographs. No-objection certificate (NOC) from the candidate’s employer in some cases is also asked for.
  
• All the candidates are asked to pass over to an English Proficiency Test which is conducted by the Indian missions located in foreign countries.
