Tracing the history of Hindi to its present state

Every human chooses a medium of language for reaching his feelings unto others. Every country and every region has a language of their own. The people who can’t speak have the silent sign language of their own. In honour of our mother tongue Hindi, let’s know some of moot facts about the Hindi language on the Eve of Hindi day being celebrated today on 14th September.



 

This article is trying to underline the reasons which have spread the wings of the Hindi language. There is hardly any need to shed tears or make condolences on account of publicising the Hindi language. Hindi has emerged out of its confines surprising the world and influencing it as well. It has left behind all its competitors as a language. The growth of Hindi has developed on the international level has caught the eyes of all and sundries feeling affinity towards it. This underlines its popularity.

14th September- Hindi day


After understanding the importance of Hindi language, Hindi was accorded the status of national language on 14th September, 1949. Hence we celebrate Hindi Day on 14th September. Along with giving it the status of the national language under section 343 of the constitution, the form of writing the Hindi language was decided to be in the ‘Devnagari Script’. It was also deliberated upon that the language of Indian Union would be Hindi and the writing mod would be that of Devnagari. The forms of the numbers for the purposes of use of official working would be that of the form prevalent at the international level. The provision in the constitution was put to place in the constitution giving Hindi the status of the national language.

How the word Hindi was invented


This a word of Pharsi which means connected with Hind. The word Hindi was derived from Sindhu i.e. Sindhi. The letter ‘S’ is pronounced as ‘H’ in Irani language.

Journey of Hindi from history to its present state


  • Brahmi script progressed since 322 BC which transformed later on as Devnagari script.
  • Growth of Hindi was effected by the riddles of Khusro in 1283 in which the words of ‘Hindwi’ were used. Khusro is considered to be the progenitor of straight speaking also.
  • Tusidas had created the ‘Ramcharit Manas’ between 1532-1623 which actually is a form of Hindi.
  • In 1826, the ‘Udant Martand’ named news paper was published for the first time round.

Hindi- now the most widely spoken language in world


Adopting changes obtaining with the changing times, the Hindi language has made a niche of its own by establishing a universal recognition through the world over. This has established a record of sorts by emerging up as the most widely spoken language of world:

Languages spoken in world


  • Mandarin-Chinese languages:102 crore,
  • English: 51 crore,
  • Hindi: 50 crore,
  • Arabi: 23 crore.

Languages spoken in India


  • Hindi: 40 crore,
  • Bengali: 8 crore,
  • Tamil: 7 crore,
  • Marathi: 6 crore

This can’t be disagreed that the bazaar has lent the acceptance of Hind giving it wings too soar high in skies and hence attracted world too in the process.
