SSC Public Examination of Secondary School Examination Board of AP
SSC examination is the most important state level examination in the school life of the students studying in schools that follow the Andhra Pradesh state government syllabus. SSC Examination is usually held in the third or fourth week of March and lasts for about 13 days exclusive of holidays. This year's examination is starting from March 22. The examination for the majority of the students is held for 11 days only since only few of the students take Language composite course, OSSC Main Language (Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian) and Vocational Course as subjects. The examination is dragged for 2 more days for these students. A few years before the government also used hold Class VII examination of the district level.
The pass in SSC examination makes the students eligible to join the junior colleges of the Andhra Pradesh or any equivalent courses run at plus two levels by the central boards or other state governments. The SSC certificate is also of the utmost important since it is the official proof of date of birth of the students. Accompanied by the study certificate and transfer certificate from the school, this certificate gives the proof of the good conduct of the student in his or her school life.
Students in Andhra Pradesh can write SSC examination through ten years of regular study in a school or they can even appear for this examination without school study but the examination applications of such students have to be forwarded to the SSC Examination Board of AP through some of the schools recognized by the AP Government. This category of students is known as private candidates. The candidates who fail in the Main examination in March have the option of writing the supplementary examination usually held in June of the same year. These candidates are also termed as private candidates and are categorised as 'Once failed candidates'.
The results of the SSC Public examination of AP Board are usually announced in the first week of May. The candidates who fail in the March – April Examination should look for the dates of examination schedule of the supplementary examination and should apply in time through the schools from where they had sent their applications for the main examination. Any delay in this respect may cause them a loss of one year of their education.
The government has implemented certain innovations from 2010 SSC Public examination such as implementation of the OMR coding system, issuing of Xerox copies of valued answer scripts in first and second language subjects on payment of certain fees, introduction of grading system etc.
Over 14 lakh candidates appear in the SSC Public Examination both as regular candidates and as private candidates.
