Its not that only those who have feelings related to mother nation can join the army ,Navy or Air force through NDA but any one of us can join.There are lots of benefits of joining the Above mentioned defense organization through NDA.Here I will not mention all the benefits in details but I will surely high light the most important out of those.So here are the reasons why you should join the NDA:-

About NDA(National Defense Academy)

The National Defence Academy or the NDA is a Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services
1.the Army
2.the Navy
3.the Air Force

are trained together before they go on to pre-commissioning training to their respective service academies. The academy is located in Khadakwasla near Pune.The Academy was the 1st tri-service academy in the world and is still regarded as one of the best institute in the world.

About NA(Naval Academy)

Before the establishment of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Indian Naval officer cadets were required to go to Dartmouth,United Kingdom for four years of with the Royal Navy and were commissioned as Sub Lieutenants upon their return.When NDA was finally established In 1954 officers of all the three services of indian defense went for pre training to NDA only.But as the size of the Indian was growing rapidly it was felt that the NDA would not able to cope up with this growth and as a result a new institution solely dedicated for the training of naval officers was set up in Ezhimala, Kerala.This institute was given the name of Indian Naval Academy.

About the NDA & NA exam 2013

In order to get the entry into the above mentioned NDA(National Defense Academy) and the prestigious NA(Naval academy) students have to first give the NDA & NA exam.This exam is divided into two parts and is conducted twice in a year.The first exam of the year is held in the month of april while the second exam is generally conducted in the month of august.
As mentioned earlier the exam is divided into two parts :-

1.Written exam:-

The written exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) without any interference from the Indian defense services.In the written exam questions are asked from the following fields
2.General knowledge.
5.General English.
6.Current Affairs.

The written exam is divided into two papers.The first paper is the mathematics paper and the second is the General ability test.Here is the complete detail about the pattern of the exam

NDA and NA exam pattern

2.SSB (Service Selection Board):-

This part of the exam is conducted entirely the Defense services of India.Those candidates who qualify the written exam are then called for the SSB at various boards in India.All three services have thier own SSB boards.The SSB procedure is further divided into three parts:-


Screening is done one day after you have arrived at the SSB boards.It basically has two parts .First is the written part with some aptitude Questions which is then followed by the Story writing and a formal discussion on the story you have written.

B.Conference :=

Those candidates who qualify after the screening are then tested for 3 days at the SSB boards in three different fields.
The three testing areas are:

1.Psychology :-

In these candidates are tested for the psychological aptitude towards Defense by a trained Psychiatrist .

2.Interview :=

The candidates also face the interview from the chairman of the Board which is generally colonel .Here also the traits related to army are analysed in the candidate.

3.GTO(Ground Testing Officer) tasks :=

Here candidates are given tasks related to the War Fields so as to test the response and leadership abilities of the candidate.


After taking in account all the three areas in the conference phase candidates then qualify for the medicals where proper medical examinations is conducted on the candidates.

After the SSB gets over for all the candidates a merit list is then released in which the combined marks of the written exam and the SSB exam is evaluated .Only those candidate who have qualified the medicals in the SSB are given position in the Merit.The top 400 candidates in the merit list are then selected for the NDA.

Eligibility For The NDA & NA exam 2013

Before you can apply for the exam you must make sure that you are completely eligible for the exam.If you don't know about the eligibility criteria then don't worry here i am mentioning the complete eligibility criteria::

1.Age Limit :

Candidates age should be between16½ to 19 years.

2.Educational Qualification:

(i) For Army wing of National Defence Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at the Naval Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.


Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

3.Marital Status and gender:

Only Unmarried male candidates are eligible for giving the exam.

4.Nationality -

A candidate must be either
a.a citizen of India, or
b.a subject of Bhutan, or
c.a subject of Nepal.

Other Examination Details:

1.Examination Fee:

Candidates ( excepting SC / ST candidates / Sons of JCOs / NCOs / ORs specified in Note 2 below who are exempted from payment of NDA Exam fees ) are required to pay a fee of 50/- ( Rupees Fifty only ) .

2.Application form:-
