New Delhi (PTI): In a bid to enhance security, Delhi Metro is planning to install Closed Circuit TVs (CCTVs) inside the trains, which will be procured for its phase-II operations.
More than 600 coaches, to be bought for operation in phase-II routes, will have cameras watching movements of passengers inside the trains, Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
Metro has already installed CCTVs in all its 59 stations across the city. A total of 1,237 CCTVs have been installed at Metro stations located in Shahdara-Rithala, Central Secretariat-Vishwa Vidyalaya and Indraprastha-Dwarka routes.
"Now, it will be possible to monitor all movements inside the stations and inside the trains also at a later date," Dayal said.
The move would help in closer scrutiny and surveillance of anybody found moving about in suspicious circumstances, he said.
All activities which take place inside Metro premises will be recorded and kept for a fixed time period and can be used as conclusive evidence in cases involving any situation which might have developed in the Metro, he said.
"It will also act as a deterrent to potential eve-teasers and those who cause nuisance to other passengers inside the Metro premises," he said.
