Admission 2013 to Certificate and Diploma courses in GKCIET, Malda

The Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology provides opportunities of higher studies to women, school dropouts and other disadvantaged sections of the society. It has now announced admission to its various certificate and diploma courses for the session 2013-14. The details about the courses is given in this article.



Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology (GKCIET)


The GKCIET was established in 2010 at Malda, West-Bengal by the ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The institute was set up as a tribute to Sri Ghani Khan Choudhury who was known for his innumerable efforts towards social development and upliftment. The main objective of the institute is to develop a 'multi-layered and inter disciplinary and inter-sectoral' proficient technical human resource to serve as a platform for the promotion of technical competence in academics. Apart from this the institute is truly dedicated towards imparting quality technical education at the grass route level and to safeguard the specific interests of women, school dropouts and other disadvantaged sections of the society. This is done by providing varied number of short and long term skills orientation programmes and courses. The courses started by the institute help people by providing non formal education. This in turn prepares them as skilled and qualified human resource for self-employment. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has appointed National Institute of Technology, Durgapur to operate as the Board of Governors of Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology(GKCIET), Malda as mentor institute.

Admission announcement for the session 2013-2014


GKCIET, Malda, West Bengal has announced the admission notification for its academic session 2013-14 to the various Certificate and Diploma programmes in Engineering and Technology.

Names of Certificate programmes


  • Food processing and preservation.
  • Servicing and maintenance of Electrical appliances.
  • Farm and automobiles repairing and maintenance.
  • Construction Technology.
  • Computer Applications.

  • All the above mentioned certificate programmes would have the following criteria:-
  • Seats :30
  • Qualification :10th pass(in English, Mathematics & Science) from a state secondary education board/CBSE/ICSE/National open school or any equivalent board. Those candidates who are appearing for their final exams may also apply provided they would submit their passing certificate at the time of admission.
  • Duration of programme :2 years.


  • Names of Diploma programmes


  • Food processing technology.
  • Electrical Engineering.
  • Mechanical Engineering.

  • All the above mentioned diploma programmes would have following criteria:-
  • Seats :15
  • Qualification :10+2 pass(in English, Mathematics & Science) from a recognized board/University. The minimum marks required in qualifying exam is 50% (45% for SC/ST categories). Candidates appearing for their final exams may also apply provided they would submit the passing certificate at the time of admission.
  • Duration of programme :2 years.
  • The B.Tech Degree programme is scheduled to get started from 2014-15 session.
    The institute has provision of moving 50% the sanctioned strength of students in each certificate programme to diploma course and from diploma to the next higher level of degree programme.

    Reservation of seats


    The reservation of seats to the various categories of certificate and diploma courses are:-
    Certificate programme:
    The reservation of seats for students of West Bengal is 75% and other states and union territory is 25%.
    Diploma programmes (Direct entry seats):
    The reservation of seats for students of West Bengal is 50% and other states and union territory is 50%.
    The other mandatory reservations(SC/ST/OBC) would be according to the Government of India rules.

    How to apply?


    The admission to the various courses of GKCIET would be done on the basis of the merit list of candidates appearing in GKCIET entrance test.
    The application form for this Entrance test would be available on the institute's website:-www.gkciet.in. The availability of this form on the website would be from-29th April, 2013 to 13th May, 2013 upto 2:00 P.M.
    Before submitting the application form online, the candidate has to deposit the application form fee of Rs 500/-(Rs.300/-for SC/ST) through bank challan. The challan would be available on the website and can be downloaded.
    Once the application fee is paid at the bank, it will issue a Transaction ID which the candidate needs to enter in the online application form to complete the submission process. After this submission the candidate can download the Admit Card for the entrance test.
    The candidates need to produce a print out of admit card and institute copy of bank challan receipt at the examination centre.

  • Availability of application forms :29th April-13th May, 2013 upto 2:00P.M.
  • Entrance Test for certificate and diploma courses :26th May, 2013.
  • Test timing for certificate course :10:00A.M to 12:30 P.M.
  • Test timing for diploma course : 2:00 P.M to 4:30 P.M.
  • Test Centres :Malda, Kolkata, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati and Patna.
  • Result date, admission date and course commencement date would be published on the website:-www.gkciet.in

    1. Caution Money(Refundable Without interest):5000
    2. Non-Refundable Fee :2745
    3. Other fee (Non-refundable per semester): 7080
