Bloggers Dashboard allows bloggers to add opinion poll to their entire blog. If the blog contains blog posts on varied topics then opinion poll to the entire blog will be illogical. This article enables bloggers to add opinion poll to the individual blog posts. Audiences may not have time to comment but voting in an opinion poll is simple way of expressing comments...

I am authoring articles for the welfare of the society at various publishing platforms like IndiaStudyChannel, HubPages and dozens of my own blogs. I wanted to have feed back of my audiences in the shape of opinion poll. While HubPages is having this facility but the other sites including blogger are not having this facility. Though blogger has one, called add opinion poll, pre devised widget on the home page of the blog, which does not serve the purpose of feed back about any particular topic or article as blog may have articles on various subjects. Opinion Poll widget on a blog with particular subject may sound good but opinion poll on a blog with articles on different subjects may not be considered appropriate as readers would like take part in opinion poll on any particular subject or topic in which they may have expertise. Here is the step by step guide to add opinion poll to a particular blog post in blogger.

Adding Poll widget to your Blog

Opinion Poll

Go to blogger dashboard layout and select the Poll pre devised widget provided by blogger shown in the figure on left. Before saving the layout, edit the poll according to the feed back required by the author. For example let us suppose that author wants to give the title of the poll as "Was this Article Useful" then edit the title as such. Then save the layout and view the blog and you will be able to see the poll opinion as per option exercised by the author while adding the pre devised poll widget on the home page of the blog.

Get the Source Code of the Poll Widget

Now open home page of the blog even without signing in the blogger. Go to settings icon on the right side of the address bar and select view source code in Tools option in settings icon. The source code will appear as under within the iframe HTML tags - that is start with iframe within < > and close iframe within where xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx is your nineteen digit blog ID:

allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="160" name="poll-widget-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" src="http://www.google.com/reviews/polls/display/-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/blogger_template/run_app?txtclr=%23666666&lnkclr=%232198a6&chrtclr=%232198a6&font=normal+normal+13px+Arial,+Tahoma,+Helvetica,+FreeSans,+sans-serif&hideq=true&purl=http://yourblogname.blogspot.in/" style="border: none; width: 100%;">

Put the code in individual blog post

Open the blog post, in which you want the opinion poll to appear, in edit HTML mode. Paste the code where you want your opinion poll to appear. Save and check purview to adjust the settings as per your choice. In case of any problem check the code in HTML mode again to look for title of the poll - "Was this Article Useful" within the span HTML tags.

Testing the opinion poll

While adding the opinion poll on the home page never try to test the opinion poll as once polling starts the author may not be able to remove the opinion poll. Similarly once the opinion poll starts for a particular blog post, article or topic - it can not be undone. The authors can put the code of the opinion poll in any article on their specific blog but not on other blogs as other blogs will have different blog ID.

I tried it and it is working fine. Now I can add opinion polls to selected resources as polling on the whole blog is useless and meaningless.
