Admission 2013 to pre-service programmes in Teaching in Regional Institute of Education,Mysore


The Regional Institute of Education, Mysore is one of the five teaching educational institutes set up by NCERT, New Delhi. It has now announced the admission notification 2013 to its various pre-service programmes- B.Ed and M.Ed. This article has all the details about the admission procedure to these courses.

Regional Institute of Education, Mysore


The Regional Institute of Education Mysore was established on 1st August, 1963 by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. It was formerly known as the Regional College of Education and is among the 5 such institutes set up by NCERT at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar and Shillong. The main objective of setting up these institutes is to improve the overall quality of education and teaching methodology in school by providing training programmes for teachers and also helping in research and developmental activities.
The institute at Mysore has been continuously working in the field of schools and teacher training since 1995. The programmes of pre-service teacher education of the institute are affiliated to the University of Mysore and satisfy the demands of the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Pondicherry and Lakshadweep.

Campus and Facilities at RIE, Mysore


The campus of the institute is situated on a beautiful and scenic landscape with an area of 120 acre. The institute has kept itself at pace with the 21st century technology and thus provides one of the best infrastructures. As the institute is a residential campus it has four hostels- Ganga, Krishna, Cauvery and Narmada that have all the necessary facilities for making the stay comfortable. There is also a Godavari Guest house for providing accommodation to the guests.
The institute also has residential quarters for staff members, playgrounds, nursery for horticulture, library, AV studio, computer resource centre, EDUSAT teleconference centre, teaching aids centre, science park, laboratories in varied fields and museums. The Demonstration school of Mysore is also a part of this institute. The institute is always involved in evolving new curriculum for students and teachers. The campus of the institute also has facilities like bank, canteen, health clinics and stationary shop.

    The Regional Institute of Education Mysore has announced admission notification 2013 to its B.Sc.Ed, B.A.Ed, M.Sc.Ed, M.Ed and DCGC programmes.
    The details about these courses are given in the following paragraphs along with the admission procedure.

    Bachelor of Science Education (B.Sc.Ed 4 year duration)


    This course is an integrated degree programme of teacher education and is of 4 year duration, with every year consisting of 2 semesters. Every semester will further consist of 16 weeks of instruction excluding examination. This degree is equivalent to the B.Sc and B.Ed degrees of University of Mysore. The students with B.Sc.Ed degree are eligible to pursue the Master Degree in the Departments of University of Mysore.

    Eligibility Criteria


  • The candidates must have cleared CBSE senior secondary exam/Pre-University exam of Karnataka or any equivalent exam of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry or the UT of Lakshadweep with minimum of 45% aggregate marks( 40% SC/ST).

  • Candidates must have cleared the qualifying exam with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics for PCM stream and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology/ Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Chemistry, Botany, Zoology for CBZ stream.

  • The selection of the candidates would be done on the basis of their marks in the qualifying exam/performance in a the selection test or both according to the NCERT rules. This selection test would consist of multiple choice questions.


  • Bachelor of Arts Education (B.A.Ed 4 year)


    This course is an integrated degree course of Teacher Education and is of 4 year duration with total of 8 semesters. Every semester consists of 16 weeks of instruction excluding examination. The course is equivalent to the B.Ed course of University of Mysore.

    Eligibility Criteria


  • Candidates must have cleared the CBSE senior secondary exam/ Pre-University exam of Karnataka or any equivalent exam of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry or the UT of Lakshadweep with 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST)

  • Candidates must have cleared the qualifying exam with these subjects-English, Regional language and any two of the subjects from History, Geography, Political Science and Sociology.

  • The selection of the candidates would be done on the basis of their marks in the qualifying exam/performance in a the selection test or both according to the NCERT rules. This selection test would consist of multiple choice questions.


  • Master of Science Education (M.Sc.Ed in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry 6 years)


    This course is again an integrated degree course of Teacher Education and leads to post-graduate degree M.Sc.Ed in Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry. The M.Sc.Ed (Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry) degree is equivalent to the B.Ed degree of University of Mysore and consists of the professional education components needed to teach Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry at senior secondary level.
    The candidates who clear this course are eligible for the Ph.D degree in the related subjects in the University of Mysore.

    Eligibility Criteria


  • Candidates must have cleared the CBSE senior secondary exam/ Pre-University exam of Karnataka or any equivalent exam recognized by the University of Mysore with aggregate marks of 45% (40% SC/ST).

  • Candidates must have cleared the qualifying exam with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other subject.

  • The selection of the candidates would be done on the basis of their marks in the qualifying exam/performance in a the selection test or both according to the NCERT rules. This selection test would consist of multiple choice questions.

  • M.Sc.Ed (Lateral entry): The candidates seeking admission under lateral entry scheme would be admitted directly to IX semester and must have passed B.Sc degree in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and B.Ed degree with pedagogy of mathematics and Physical sciences of any recognized university. This must be equivalent to that of B.Sc and B.Ed degrees of University of Mysore with 50% (45% SC/ST)aggregate marks in each of B.Sc and B.Ed.


  • Master of Education (M.Ed 1 year )


    This course is only 1 year duration and consists of only 2 semesters of 18 weeks each. There are 40 seats in this course and there are provisions for students of other states and UTs. Reservations to this course for SC/ST/OBC/PH would be done according to the Govt. of India provisions.

    Eligibility Criteria


  • Candidates willing to take admission in M.Ed courses must have cleared 1 year B.Ed/2 year B.Ed/4 years integrated B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed/M.Sc.Ed/ or any equivalent degree recognized by the University with 50% aggregate marks (45% SC/ST).

  • The candidates with post-graduate degree in Sciences/ Humanities/ Social Sciences would be given additional weightage.


  • Diploma Course in Guidance and Counselling (DCGC)


    This course is a 1 year distance learning course and is offered by the NCERT, New Delhi at the Department of Educational Psychology and Foundations of Education, NCERT and also at five regional institutes including the one at Mysore. This course begins in September/ October, 2013 and the details about this course can be obtained by e-mailing to-idgc.ncertmys@gmail.com.

    Reservation and Scholarships


    Every programme would have reservation of seats as follows:-SC-15%, ST-7.5%, OBC-27% and PH-3%. The candidates applying through reservation quota would need to produce the community certificate/ PH certificate in the format prescribed by the Govt.of India and issued by the state governments/UT.
    The SC/ST students who would take admission in the institute would be awarded scholarships provided they are not receiving any financial aid from any other source. From the remaining students, 50% would be awarded the merit-cum-means scholarship according to the rules.
    The scholarship amount would be :-
  • Rs.800/-p.m for B.Sc.Ed,B.A.Ed and M.Sc.Ed (I to VIII semesters)
  • Rs.1200/- p.m for M.Sc.Ed(IX to XII semesters) and M.Ed
  • Apart from this, 20% rest of the students would be awarded free-ships according to the rules.


  • Fee structure


  • Tuition Fee: According to the NCERT rules the candidates would be charged tuition fee of Rs.250/-p.m. However, SC/ST students would be exempted from this fee.

  • University Fee: This will be charged according to the University's guidelines.

  • Hostel Charges: The hostels are available separately for boys and girls. Rs.2000/- towards hostel charges and Rs.8000/- towards mess would be charged per semester.


  • How to Apply?


  • The candidates can request their application form from Section Officer(Academic section), Regional Institute of Education, Mysore-570006.
  • This request must be accompanied by a crossed DD from any nationalized bank for Rs.500/- for every application (Rs.350/- for SC/ST candidates), drawn in favour of Principal, Regional Institute of Education, Mysore-570006 payable at Mysore.
  • Also candidates must send a self-addressed 26cm*12cm size envelope bearing Rs.10/- postal stamp. The envelope must have the name of the programme and stream/ subject on top.Payment will NOT be accepted in the form of money order or cash or postal orders.
  • Candidates may also download the application form from the website-www.rimysore.ac.in or www.ncert.nic.in and sent with the DD in favour of Principal, Regional Institute of Education, Mysore-6. This must be sent with a self-addressed envelope bearing Rs.10/- postal stamp.
