Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University has recently announced admission notification for various subjects on M.A. and M.Sc. programmes for the session 2013-14. About Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University


Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University has been named after the great Rajbanshi leader and social reformer Panchanan Barma popularly known as Thakur Panchanan and Roy Saheb from Cooch Behar. He was born at Khalisamari village in the year 1865 in erstwhile Cooch Behar, the Princely State, at the time of British rule. He established Kshatriya Sabha to practice Brahminical values among the people of Rajbanshi community in Cooch Behar. He died in the year 1935. The people of North Bengal worship him for his great contribution to the society. The Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University established by government of West Bengal through West Bengal Act XXI of 2012 and The Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University Act, 2012. The permanent campus of the University has not been constructed yet and the work for construction of the same has been vested to the North Bengal Development Department. However, the temporary campus situated at the Central Farmers' Hostel of the Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Pundibari, Cooch Behar, West Bengal.

Subjects of Study


Master of Arts:
a) Bengali b) English c) Hindi d) History e) Philosophy

Master of Science:
a) Geography & Applied Geography

The curriculum of the above courses is divided into four Semesters with the provisions of continuing evaluation. Examinations will be held at the end of each Semester. The entire examination system and syllabi have been prepared in such a manner that can meet the standard international credit system so that if a student desire to transfer his/her credit from one university to another university in the world that could be easily possible.

Tentative academic calendar of the University


The academic session of the University is July to June and it's first academic session starts from 1st July, 2013. The session is split into two semesters a) First Semester - January 2014 b) Second Semester - June 2014.

Eligibility for admission:

A candidate shall be eligible for admission If he/she has passed the B.A. Honours degree in the subject under (10+2+1+1+1) pattern of any University whose Degrees have been recognized by this University as its equivalent. The candidates who are awaiting for their final results are also eligible to apply. However their admission will be considered only after submission of the final mark sheet within the stipulated time.

Some other conditions regarding admission:

  • A student will not be allowed to take transfer from one department to other after admitting himself or herself.


  • The candidates who will be declared eligible for admission shall have to pay all the charges required for admission within a time limit as may be fixed. They have to submit two affidavits towards curbing the menace of ragging; one declaration by the candidate himself/herself & another one by their Parent/Guardian which should be verified and signed by Notary at the time of admission.


  • If a student selected for admission and does not get himself/herself admitted within the specified time limit his/her claim for admission will be forfeited.


  • If a student fails to attend 50% of the classes held during the first seven teaching days his/her name shall be struck off from the Roll. To be eligible to sit for the Examination a student has to attend at least 75% of the classes and tutorials held in a Semester.

  • For M.A. subjects:
    Admission fee (per sem.): Rs. 63/-
    Tuition fee (for 3 months): Rs. 375/- (Rs. 188.00 for BPL)
    Session fee (per sem.): Rs. 63/-
    Magazine fee (per sem.): Rs. 10/-
    Library fee (per sem.): Rs. 10/-
    Students' Aid Fund (per sem.): Rs. 30/-
    Students' Health Home (per sem.): Rs. 03/-
    Development fee (per sem.): Rs. 50/-
    Identity Card: Rs. 20/-(once)
    Laboratory fee (per sem.): Nil


  • M.Sc Subject:
    Admission fee (per sem.): Rs. 80/-
    Tuition fee (for 3 months): Rs. 480/-(Rs. 240.00 for BPL)
    Session fee (per sem.): Rs. 80/-
    Magazine fee (per sem.): Rs. 10/-
    Library fee (per sem.): Rs. 10/-
    Students' Aid Fund (per sem.): Rs. 30/-
    Students' Health Home (per sem.): Rs. 03/-
    Development fee (per sem.): Rs. 50/-
    Identity Card: Rs. 20/-(once) Rs. 20/-(once)
    Laboratory fee (per sem.): Rs. 90/-


Fees can be modified by the appropriate authority as may be fit to be deemed necessary and the Course fee will not be refunded if a candidate discontinues the course or changes the subject. Student will have to pay the above fees by cash at the University Cash Counter or by demand draft drawn in favour of "Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University" payable at "Cooch Behar".

How to apply


All the eligible candidates can get the application form which will be available from the office of Registrar, Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University, on payment of Rs.100/- (Rs.35/- for SC/ST/OBC on production of relevant certificate) in cash at the University cash counter from July 1, 2013 between 11a.m. to 3p.m. on all working days. Candidates can also get the application form through post by sending a Bank Draft of Rs.100/- (Rs.35/- for SC/ST/OBC, enclosing a copy of relevant certificate) drawn in favour of "COOCH BEHAR PANCHANAN BARMA UNIVERSITY" payable at SBI, Cooch Behar Sagar Dighi Square Branch, Cooch Behar. The prescribed application form can also be downloaded from the University website www.cbpbu.ac.in and the downloaded form can be submitted along with Bank Draft of respective fees for respective category candidates mentioned herein with. Completed application form should reach or submitted to the office of the Registrar by July 15, 2013 along with self attested (full signature) copies of SC/ST/OBC/PH/BPL/Antyodaya/NSS/NCC/Sports Certificates, Admit Card and Mark Sheet of Madhyamik Examination (10th), Mark Sheet of H.S. (10+2) and Degree level etc.

The merit list of the provisionally selected candidates will be notified in the notice board of the University on 6th August, 2013 and no other intimation will be issued to selected candidates.
