Deepa Mehta - Director

One of the most daring female directors found in India. Her works until today are Fire, Earth & Water.
These movies are not about romantic boys giving roses to every girl they meet nor is it any
Action packed entertainer with lot of guns, bikes &car. Still her movies are much talked, the reason her movies projects the hard-core truth about certain things in India that some of us still deny from happening.
Fire was the most controversial of the lot because of its story line. People Protested in large numbers seeking ban on the movie. It was re-released twice and it was only during the third time that the movie was able to run smoothly. The movie deals with homosexuals, it depicts two Daughter --in- law of a respectable house falling into an intimate relationship. Earth revolves around the life of a young Parsee girl whose life changes completely after the partition.
Water was an Oscar nominated movie that was not appreciated in India. It is sad to know that the movie went to the Oscars through Canada even though it is an Indian movie. This movie had to be shot in Srilanka at places resembling to Varanasi as the protestor made it difficult for them to shot in India .The movie depicts the truth of the widows in the widow house .
