The online registration process for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam is started from 2 September 2013. GATE 2014 application can be done only in "online" mode.
In GATE 2013 some subject’s exam was conducted in online mode and other in offline mode. But this year, all the subjects’ examination will be conducted only in online mode.
Employment opportunities through GATE examination
The candidates successfully passing the GATE exams with valid scores can seek employment opportunities in several public sector undertakings(PSU).
In the recent past many Government organizations have used GATE scores as screening for job applications. Here is an indicative list:

GATE 2014 Online application process
Aspiring candidates can register for GATE 2014 though GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) on link mentioned here: http://gateapp.iitkgp.ac.in/gate/
Candidates should enable Java Script in the browser settings before starting with the online registration process.
Candidates should be ready with photo image in a JPEG format and on a standard 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm print (350 x 450 pixels).
Candidate would also require a scanned signature in JPEG format for the online application process.
Candidates should mail the printed application form along with the supporting documents and GATE copy of application fees challan by Speed Post or Registered Post to the Zonal Office.
The application envelope should reach the respective GATE zonal offices on or before 10 October 2013.
Application fees for GATE 2014 examination
GATE 2014 application fee is non-refundable. Application fees can be paid by either of internet banking or offline challan at SBI or Syndicate Bank.
Application fees for male candidates from general and OBC category is Rs.1500. Women candidates and SC / ST / PWD candidates will have to pay Rs.750 as application fees. All other candidates will pay Rs.1500 application fees.
Exam Pattern for GATE 2014
GATE 2014 exam will be conducted in an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
The GATE examination will consist of a single paper of 3-hour duration carrying a maximum of 100 marks.
The question paper will consist a total 65 questions of both multiple choice questions (MCQ) and numerical answer type questions.

Last date for completing submission of online application form for GATE 2014 : 03.10.2013
Last date for the receipt of print-out of the online application at the any GATE Zonal offices: 10.10.2013
Last Date for Request for Change in the test center : 20.11.2013
