AICTE-ISTE SPONSORED SHORT TERM COURSE ON SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION AND ADAPTIVE CONTROL TECHNIQUES

9th-13th JUNE, 2008

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

To introduce the participants (faculty, and practicing engineers) to the recently developed system identification and adaptive control theory and their applications to different engineering systems (robotics, power system, drives, communication channels, Biomedical systems and chemical processes and Mechatronic system).

In the interest of the industrial practitioners, a comprehensive survey of the various methods and procedures for performing system identification in the process industries will be provided.

The course will provide the participant a clear understanding of the fundamentals of system identification to make judicious, intelligent choices of methods and design variables in system identification & adaptive control.

The participants will get a feeling for the possibilities and limitations of various system identification techniques. The differences between linear and nonlinear system identification will also be addressed.

To provide the participants skills to design experiments, analyse data and to identify and validate models of dynamical systems, as appearing in industrial process control.

To gives a hands on practice on using MATLAB system identification toolboxes through a comprehensive series of computer lab exercises.

VENUE

The course will be organized at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela. It is one of the premier national level institutions for technical education in the country and is funded by the Government of India. It is situated at the eastern end of Rourkela steel city, beyond Sector-1 over an area of 262 hectares of land. NIT Rourkela has fourteen academic departments which offer B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD programs in various areas of engineering and technology. The Institute is a participant of the Technical Education Quality Improvement programme of Government of India.

CO-ORDINATOR
The course will be handled by Dr. Bidyadhar Subudhi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Electrical Engineering. Dr. Subudhi has been awarded a PhD degree in Control System Engineering from the University of Sheffield, U.K. in 2002 and M.Tech in Control and Instrumentation from IIT Delhi. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from REC Rourkela. Most recently Dr. Subudhi worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in NUS, Singapore. His areas of research and teaching involvements include Adaptive Control, System Identification, Intelligent Control, and Robotics.
