The interview to the doctor Tomas Muler.

I have got acquainted with the doctor Tomas Müller during the festival “Oktober Fest”. I have learnt that he is an expert in weight management and nutrition. So, I called him and ask for the interview.
When we met in the café, I asked him for the permission to use his interview for my research work in the college. And after he gave me the permission, we began the interview.

Question:

I have a very good friend. She is very nice and we have much in common. But we have a clear-cut distinction in the physical plan.
She is very skinny and it is very hard for her to gain weight. It is her problem from the childhood. When she was a little girl, she heard all the time that she was so skinny and that she should eat this and should eat that. And she once met a person who told her that, she was so skinny that she would never be able to carry a baby. She ended up going to the doctor and he told her that it was a stupid thing for anyone to say. But she was so paranoid about her weight that she went on a get fat diet.
I had an opposite problem, I was a fat person. Sometimes children can be much ruder and mean against people who are not looking like them. A lot of people used to call me as “fatty” or “bear- like” and I was just a very emotional person who can’t carry those stuff easily and couldn’t deal with that at all.
Besides a few extra pounds... there is no difference between a bigger girl and a skinny girl.

Why do women feel such a strong need to become thin? And for the men answering this that do have an issue with over weight girls, what is it that makes you turn your nose and treat bigger girls badly?

Answer:

I think it is because all ads are geared toward thin women. If you think about it ads and things don't show heavy set women. Why don't the advertisers realize that not all women are going to be thin? But I think that is why women feel such a strong need to become thin.

If you look back in history there is an ebb and flow to beauty standards that aligns with several other social values. Where there is "plenty" meaning food, jobs, healthy children; the standard tends toward forcing women into unnatural thinness. This is accomplished through not eating, purging, and historically through clothing such as stays pulled so tightly that a women could achieve an 18 inch waist.

In societies and cultures where the lack is the norm you will find that women run to larger sizes and the larger the better. In some societies women of girth are valued and young women are "fattened" up by their families before their marriage as a sign of their parent’s wealth and to insure that their daughters will bring respect to their home and name.

In today's society where many women buy into the media machine and the need to be thin to the point of emaciation those that do not are outcast. This is true not just by other women but by society in general. The woman who is larger than a size 12 has difficulty finding clothing in today's fashion industry. If she is larger than a 14 forget it.
The larger woman will find herself confronting bias in the workplace as well. There is a tendency to believe that the woman who doesn't fit the "norm" is of less value. She might even be lazy, of low class, of low moral character, without standards or self-control. All of these and more get applied to the woman who is of normal weight or over-weight. Yet most people never stop to ask what might be the underlying issues of that woman’s life.
Question:

I am getting older and I have the same problem as many women all around the world. I have gained so much weight! I need to lose at least 20 lbs to be in a normal shape.
I used some diets. But it is well known that we can use the diet only for a period of time.
Take for example the Atkins diet. I think that it is one of the best. I went on this diet about 5 years ago and lost 20 lbs pretty quickly. It was very hard in the beginning. I did not have my beloved products, but it did get easier within a few days. But than I had some changes in my life and I said: “Bye Atkins!” And after that I gained about half of it back.

Answer:

But nevertheless, I highly recommend a low- carb eating plan for weight loss.
I absolutely do not understand people who smoke and say that smoking helps them to stop the mindless eating. For my opinion it is exchanging one bad habit for another. A lot of grossly overweight people really want to lose the weight because it does affect their health, their life and their family’s lives.
But dieting is not easy and you have to change your entire lifestyle in order to keep it off. It's easy to tell yourself "I’m not fat, I'm just fluffy" but you know deep down, you've got a problem.

Question:

I should admit that I do not believe in the drugs. I am sure that all drugs have side effects. I had my bad experience with weight loss pills.
I liked what the reviews and manufacturer had to say and I decided to try the Alli weight loss pills. They said weight loss involved a change in lifestyle and that this wasn’t a quick fix. To tell the truth, I wasted three month of my life to this weight loss pills. And I am very upset.
In three month I did not lose any extra weight. More than that, it seems to me that my clothes are starting to fit tighter.
The pills state that if you use them with diet and exercise, you can lose more weight. Yes, I did that, and there are no results.
The worst part is the side effects. The pills actually stop your body from absorbing a specific percentage of fat that you consume. I had this problem with EVERYTHING I ate. I had a couple of apples one day and spent the next 15 minutes in the restroom.
At least with other pills I got a little extra boost of energy, but these didn’t even have that.

Considering the amount of time I spent in the bathroom over the last few months, along with my diet and working out, I should have seen some results by now. Instead I saw nothing except a smaller wallet.
What is your opinion of the weight loss drugs?

Answer:

Even already attractive women that are healthy are changing themselves to fit the unreasonable standards of our society. For example, a very attractive, considered sexy and beautiful tennis player showed up to a match looking horrifying thin, to the point where her bones could be easily seen in many places. The things that gave her fame and popularity (because she was never a good tennis player) were gone, including a nice rear end, decent bust size, and sculpted arms and legs.

But what made her to look so thin?

The answer is very simple, too many unhealthy, sickly thin famous people, and normal people for that matter, are receiving praise for looking good, when in fact behind closed doors they are essentially killing themselves to be this way. It has been scientifically proven that people that diet on and off, allow severe weight fluctuations, and starve themselves are going to meet an earlier death than those who do not.

This societal attitude has snowballed out of control and needs to stop. I'm telling all young girls and women who feel they are less worthy, because of your weight to not buy into the illusion! Realize that every time you see a severely thin celebrity, there is likely some kind of self abuse, counter productive behavior going on such as anorexia, bulimia, drug/alcohol abuse, over exercising, etc. I am not trying to generalize all celebrities, because there are many that do follow proper dieting and exercise techniques, but remember that MANY (more than you realize) have admitted to, hinted at, and spoke out about their experiences with these problems before, so it is not an uncommon trend in Hollywood.
Most of all you must learn to accept yourself and the things you cannot change. Learn to love yourself AS you are a uniquely made individual, even if you are not 'cookie cutter' perfect in your own or others eyes, because truthfully nobody is!

Question:
I read that detoxifying is the key to achieve ultra healthy and beautiful body. Would you be so kind to recommend not drugs but detoxify foods to lowering body weight?

Answer:

If you're thinking about lowering your weight (and your Real Age) "eating clean" is a great first step.

These 10 foods will make you achieve three terrific benefits:

1. Lots of super-healthy liquids to flush out the body while pouring in nutrients.

2. Fiber to keep your GI tract fit.

3. Foods that energize cleansing enzymes in the liver, your body's built-in detox center.

Add these top 10 detoxify foods on your grocery list and achieve a healthy and sound mind and body:

Green leafy vegetables - Eat them raw, throw them into a broth, and add them to juices. Their chlorophyll helps swab out environmental toxins (heavy metals, pesticides) and protects the liver.

Lemons - You need to keep the fluids flowing to wash out the body and fresh lemonade is ideal. Its vitamin C, considered the detoxify vitamin, helps convert toxins into a water-soluble form that's easily flushed away.

Watercress - Put a handful into salads, soups, and sandwiches. The peppery little green leaves have a diuretic effect that helps move things through your system. And cress is rich in minerals too.

Garlic - Add it to everything -- salads, sauces, spreads. In addition to the bulb's cardio benefits, it activates liver enzymes that help filter out junk.

Green tea - This antioxidant-rich brew is one of the healthiest ways to get more fluids into your system. Bonus: It contains catechins, which speed up liver activity.

Broccoli sprouts - Get 'em at your health-food store. They pack 20 to 50 times more cancer-fighting, enzyme-stimulating activity into each bite than the grown-up vegetable.

Sesame seeds- They're credited with protecting liver cells from the damaging effects of alcohol and other chemicals. For a concentrated form, try tahini, the yummy sesame seed paste that's a staple of Asian cooking.

Cabbage- There are two main types of detoxifying enzymes in the liver; this potent veggie helps activate both of them. Coleslaw, anyone?

Psyllium- A plant that's rich in soluble fiber, like oat bran, but more versatile. It mops up toxins (cholesterol too) and helps clear them out. Stir powdered psyllium into juice to help cleanse your colon, or have psyllium-fortified Bran Buds for breakfast.

Fruits, fruits, and fruits- They're full of almost all the good things above: vitamin C, fiber, nutritious fluids, and all kinds of antioxidants. Besides, nothing tastes better than a ripe mango, fresh berries, or a perfect pear

Question:

I am very interesting in your opinion of the benefits of taking a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement?

Answer:

Taking a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement makes more sense than taking individual preparations. First, we don't have to contend with so many individual pills. Secondly, it is more cost-effective to buy a multi vitamin/mineral formula. Thirdly, when the formula is comprehensive, all vitamins and minerals work in tandem, assisting each other. Fourth, the whole package is better than an incomplete one, because if one vitamin or mineral is emphasized too much in supplementation, it may offset or throw off balance, a potential deficiency.

Question:
Can you give some recommendations for the beginning of the day for the people who want to have healthy and beautiful body?

Answer:

We need to have 8.1 hours of sleep to re-charge our bodies. People who have less than 6 hours sleep a night have a 70% higher mortality rate, according to Californian studies. I'm currently studying spending 18 hours in bed, so will hopefully live to a 130.

When sleeping in your own, or someone else's bed, makes sure the mattress is firm enough to support your body weight. With sufficient material, within the mattress, that will act as a cushion to allow for the contours of the body to be supported.
Have a glass of water by your bed, and attempt to drink eight 8 oz glasses of water a day.

At breakfast mix fruit juices with 50% water, to aid absorption, prevent rapid sugar levels in the blood, and to save money. Make sure you don't skip breakfast, unless you get out of bed after 12 o'clock, then go straight for lunch. Spend time at breakfast to plan out your day, take each day one day at a time, but make the most of them, planning is the key to success.

If you feel tired just after eating lunch, (the 2 o'clock slump), you are probably eating too much refined/processed carbohydrates, and your body has become carbohydrate sensitive. Try and eat more complex carbs, and add more protein and fibre to your meals. Oh yeah, don't forget to drink that water.

Question:

If exercise were a drug, we would all have a bottle in the kitchen cupboard. Everybody knows that exercise is one of the best ways to reduce weight.
Please, give me some recommendations for exercise.

Answer:

It's easy to lose weight. Keeping it off is the hard part, exercise works. Use common sense and pace yourself so you can talk occasionally when you exercise.
When you exercise, remind yourself, "I'm building a better body to live in”.

The best aerobic exercise is the one you'll do, the best time to exercise is when you will do it. Aim for a minimum of 3 sessions for at least 30 minutes of aerobic training, remember even sex can be a workout.

If you get out of breath when you exercise, you're probably going too fast.
Training too hard, may lower your fitness, resting your body, allows it to recover and rebuild itself properly. Don't over train, you'll just burn-up or melt.

Stress lowers the immune system and exercise helps to counter stress. Over exercising puts pressure on the immune system, make sure you take those vitamins and minerals, and remember get fit to play sport, not play sport to get fit.

Avoid stopping every 2 minutes to tie your laces, when going for that run, at the start of your fitness regime, make sure you put a double knot in the laces.

When cycling to work, the gym, or anywhere else, keep the bike under lock and key, remember somebody may want yours, and force you to have a long walk home.
Buy, rent, borrows a dog. One of the best aerobic exercises for any fitness level is plain old walking. Remember to take the dog with you.

Question:

Is it okay to exercise even if you have your monthly period?

Answer:

Actually yes, I do think it is ok. Research shows that exercising and working out, are one of the ways to help reduce cramps and pain associated with your menstrual cycle. Very often though, a lighter work out would probably be best as being tired is of course one of the things associated with your menstrual cycle.
I would not say that stimulating the lower body with light movement is ill advised. To the contrary gentle stimulation may often be indicated (although probably not on the 1st day of menses, unless one is in the habit of exercise during menses). Gentle stimulation to the area can be very beneficial.

If going to the gym is something that you look forward to, and then I imagine that you can find a lighter, gentler exercise routine to engage in during that time. Sometimes just the fact that we 'stick to a routine', like going to the gym, serves a great purpose. So, I think that it's really a very personal choice. Though, whatever you decide, please do be kind to your body.

I don't know what equipment you've been using at the gym. However, light use of the stationary bicycle would probably be very helpful. And of course, stretching the whole of the body, including the abdomen and full lower body is well advised.

Question:

Many thanks for the interview! I’ve learned so much from it. And in the end, would you give some not so serious advices for the people who want to have healthy and beautiful body?

Answer:
Relax with a glass or two of wine. The antioxidants it contains can give protection against heart disease.

Heart disease, cancer's etc. can run in the family. Check your family history and aim to get you checked out for any hereditary problems.

There are currently around 100,000 cases of food poisoning resulting in up to 200 deaths a year in the U. K. Make sure you wash and prepare food properly, check the sell buy dates, and if you get ill, drink plenty of fluid and stay in the bedroom closest to the bathroom.

Men's testosterone levels fall by about 25% in the late evening. Aim to put the morning erection to good use, as this is apparently when you are most horny.

If you're going to fart, and you're in public, cough at the same time to cover up the noise. This is also a good stomach exercise.

Smile, laugh be happy, don't take everything in life to serious, remember it’s alright to fart, apparently we all do it on average 13 times a day, and that includes ladies.
