Tips To Tackle Behavioral Interviews

Behavioral interviewing is new style of interviewing that was developed in the 1970's. Currently, 30 percent of all organizations are using behavioral interviewing to some degree. So preparation for behavioral interview is important.
Following are some behavioral interview tips:
1. Learn About the Company
Go to the employer's web site for information such as:
* How big is the company in terms of annual sales or employees?
* What does the company say about its products or services?
* What recent news can you discuss?
2. Think of Some Stories
Memorize three achievement stories. Tell them about times you have really felt proud of an achievement at work or school. These stories demonstrate all those hard-to-measure qualities like judgment, initiative, teamwork or leadership.
3. Location
Confirm the date, time and location of the interview. Check timetables and book train tickets in advance. Contact your interviewer if you are late at the interview.
4. Pick your outfit, and go to bed early
Lay out your interview outfit the night before, get a good night's rest, and always get an early start.
5. Turn cell phones off
Getting a phone call in the middle of an interview doesn’t impress the employer. Avoid the disruption by turning your phone off or not bringing it at all.
6. Be specific
Be specific and provide plenty of details. Describe in detail how you are a goal-oriented person. Explain and show the details that back up your answers.
7. Understand the position
Ask a lot of questions about the position. An interview is a chance for you to learn more about the job and the company. Make sure that you understand the responsibilities of the job. Ask about the job expectations.
8. Behavioral Interview Tips - Do's
* Be familiar with the name and title of the interviewer. Take your interview confirmation letter with you.
* Analyze the position for which you are applying and identify the critical capabilities.
* Maintain eye contact.
* Watch your grammar. Interviewers are interested in articulate candidates. Use pauses rather than "uhs."
* Be aware of your non-verbal communication, especially your posture.
* Be yourself. Display energy and a positive attitude. Show you are sincerely interested. Be prepared to talk about yourself in a clear, concise manner.
* Focus on your ability to learn quickly, communication skills, analytical abilities and other strengths.
* Be alert and attentive. Answer the questions asked. Stick to the subject.
* Be prepared to discuss any aspect of your resume in depth.
* Emphasize your strong points. Be self-confident.
* Be prepared to answer tough questions.
* Review your notes. Do not bring out a note pad during the interview. Always ask for permission to take notes in an interview
