Short Term Course on Surface Mining Technology

OBJECTIVE
The objective of the proposed course is to provide technology appraisal to the participant so that they can comprehend the importance of productivity enhancement through best practices in:
Drilling and blasting
Performance monitoring of explosives and rock fragmentation
Excavation and loading
Haulroad design and maintenance
Spoil dump design and maintenance
The participants will undergo special sessions on experience accounting and self training through bottleneck analysis in the serene teaching learning environment in the campus of IIT, Kharagpur.
COURSE CONTENT
Drilling and blasting : Basic principles of rock fragmentation, Explosive characteristics and explosive selection, Blast hole drilling and drilling performance, Blast design for surface mines and quarries. Drilling and blasting economics.
Excavation and Loading : Introduction to basic concepts, Selection of equipment for excavation and loading, Productivity of excavation and loading operations, Planning for excavation and loading, Performance bottlenecks and constraints resolution, Management through information analysis for excavation and loading, Auxiliary operations for excavation and loading performance. Introduction to face design for effective excavation and loading
Surface mine transport : Review of latest developments in surface mine transport system, design and maintenance of mine haulroads, cost centers of mine transport and technology solutions.
Spoil Dump and Reclamation : Introduction to the basic concepts, Spoil dump design and management of reclamation, latest technology developments
COURSE FEE
A course fee of Rs. 10000.00 per participant for the course inclusive of course material is payable by demand draft in favour of "CEP-STC, IIT, Kharagpur" payable at Kharagpur. The course fee will not be refunded unless the nomination is withdrawn 3 weeks before the commencement of the course. The course fee does not include boarding and lodging charges.
ACCOMODATION
Accommodation for the participants can be arranged on request in the CEC Guest House, IIT Kharagpur, which has dining hall facilities.
PARTICIPATION
The course will be useful for the executives and supervisory staff engaged in maintenance and operation of mining machinery as well as those who are engaged in planning and information processing. The higher and middle level management involved in decision-making regarding replacement, overhauling and procurement of equipment would also be benefited.
