Good tips Mr.Karthikeyan! In addition to that, the tenant should read the rent agreement, if any, line by line, well before signing as some points might skip from the eyes. It does not mean that the owner is cheating or anything but the tenant should be aware of the conditions and points raised in the agreement. It is better to get the meter reading also before occupying.

In rent agreement the clause related to the annual increase of rent should particularly be seen. Generally it is 10% to 15% per annum. Also the clause pertaining to the notice period for vacating the house is generally tilted in favor of the house owner. The tenants are required to give two months notice though the owner is required to give only one months notice. It is better to deposit rent in the bank account of the owner directly if possible.
