Salt water gargle

Sage and cone flower extracts are equally beneficial for common cold and cough. Cone flower oil steaming is recommended in ayurvedic herbal treatment to reduce throat infections.

Ulmas Rubra or slippery Elm

It is one of the old remedies for sore throat. The plant extracts can give positive effect on sore throat and cough. The plant carries a gel like substance in it. This gel is mixed with water before consuming. The slippery substance can give soothing coat over sore throat and reduces the irritation effectively.

Marshmallow roots

Marshmallow roots also contain gel like stuff inside. The consumption of the extracts can give relief in sore throat instantly. Marshmallow roots powder is available in the market, if you get the fresh dried root of marshmallow, and then add in boiling water to make herbal tea. Consumption of this medicinal tea thrice a day can give you aid from sore throat and dry cough.

Licorice root is popularly known as 'mulaithee kee jad' in Hindi language and is easily available in the market. It is well known to cause relief to sore throat conditions and is used also by many. In case it is not available easily, then sucking a piece of ginger also gives relief.
However as far as other herbs like marshmallow roots, ulmas rubran etc., the author may consider furnishing its names in major Indian languages enabling the readers to easily understand and derive its benefits also.

In our house my grand mother and my mother used to give us the following as medicine when we suffer from any sort of throat infection or sore throat-
Take pepper corns in three, five, seven or nine in numbers and fry them in one spoonful ghee. Once the peppers pop, allow them to cool. The peppers should then be chewed well and the ghee should be swallowed. In doing so even for once, the throat sore will go away.
