How to apply for Indian Railways recruitment of RPF/RPSF Music Band constables

This article provides complete information on the March 2016 Indian Railways recruitment drive for the post of constables in RPF/RPSF (Band). Details of instrument-wise vacancies, eligibility criteria, exam fee & application procedure are provided.

Indian Railways invites application from eligible candidates for the post of constables in RPF / RPSF (Band) as per their employment notice No.01/2016. Applications will be accepted up to 11th April 2016.

Pay Scale

Selected candidates will get salary in Pay Band of Rs.5,200-Rs.20,200 + Grade Pay Rs.2,000, as well as all the usual allowances as admissible to Central Govt. employees from time to time.

Eligibility requirements

  1. Nationality: You must be a citizen of India.

  2. Age: You must not be less than 18 yearas and not more than 25 years as on 1st July 2016. You must be born between 2nd July 1991 and 1st July 1998 (both dates inclusive). It is important to note that your Date of Birth mentioned in the Matriculation/High School exam certificate (or an equivalent certificate) as on the date of submission of application will only be accepted.

  3. Educational qualification: You must have passed Matriculation or an equivalent exam from a recognized Board / University. If you are having an educational certificate other than a State Board or Central Board one, then it should be accompanied with a Government of India notification declaring that the qualification is equivalent to Matriculation/10th pass for services under Central Government.

  4. Experience: You must have experience of not less than 2 years in the specified musical instrument. Ex-Servicemen holding certificate of Military music shall be permitted to apply

Exam fee

The application fee is Rs.50. It is non-refundable. It should be paid in the form of crossed Indian Postal Order / Bank Draft, payable in favour of Financial Advisor @ Chief Accounts Officer, East Central Railway, Hajipur.

Note that no fee will be charged from candidates who belong to SC/ST categories, female candidates and ex-servicemen.

Selection process

The recruitment will be made based on the performance of the eligible applicants in the following:
  1. A written exam of 45 minutes: 60 multiple choice objective type questions will be given, comprising of 20 questions on General Awareness, 20 questions on Arithmetic and 20 questions on General Intelligence and Reasoning.

  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Other than ex-servicemen, candidates have to participate in 3 events: 800meters, long jump and high jump.

  3. Physical Measurement Test (PMT): You should have the following physical standards:
    • Height: For UR / OBC - Male: 165/Female: 157; For SC / ST - Male: 160/Female: 152; For Garhwalis, Gorkhas, Marathas, Dogras, Kumaonese and other categories specified by Govt. - Male: 163/Female: 155.

    • Chest (for male candidates): For UR / OBC - 80 expanded & 85 expanded; For SC / ST - 76.2 expanded & 81.2 expanded; For Garhwalis, Gorkhas, Marathas, Dogras, Kumaonese and other categories specified by Govt. - 80 expanded & 85 expanded.

  4. Document verification: As soon as PET & PMT is completed, you must submit all original documents as supporting proof of your educational qualification, age, SC/ST/OBC status (if applicable), domicile certificate & other requisite documents related to extra curricular activities [including NCC], experience certificate, etc.

  5. Bonus marks on the basis of NCC/sports certificates and Height will be given.

  6. Trade Test: This test is of 40 marks and will be the main determinant for selection. You must score 16 marks for UR/OBC (14 marks for SC/ST candidates) to qualify for further stages of the selection process. Note that you must bring your own instruments for the Trade test.

  7. Medical Exam: If successful in the Trade Test, you will need to undergo a medical exam at a Railway Hospital & must qualify in medical category 'B-1' as prescribed in Indian Railway Medical Manual.

  2. Submit the completed application on A-4 size bond paper (using one side only) and send through ordinary post only to:

Important notes:
  1. Ensure that you paste a colour photo in the given space provided for it of size 4.5 cms x 3.5 cms (it should not be earlier than 3 months from the date of application) with a clear front view without cap and sunglasses. Also, you need to enclose 2 passport size photos with the application form.

  3. The words "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF CONSTABLE (BAND) IN RPF INCLUDING RPSF" must be superscribed on the envelope.

Last date of receipt of off line application: 11th April, 2016. For candidates living in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir,Lahaul & Spiti district and Pangi Sub Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the last date of receipt of application is 18th April 2016.
