Improving social skills and improving cooperativeness of a child

Expose your child with a group of people since tender age

You should introduce your child to other people within one year of age. A baby can easily mold to the world before they reach the stage of possessiveness. Once, they become possessive about their parents or own people, they are not willing to mix with other people. As soon as your child is comfortable to move outdoors, you can just introduce your child to different people. Do not keep your child indoors always fearing that he or she may suffer due to cold or warm climate. When the weather is warm or moderate, take your child outdoors and let them get exposed to the world. Let them enjoy the beauty of nature right from their tender age. Some superstitious people believe that if their children or grandchildren are viewed by many people, then evil spirits influence them. But in this way, these children lose interest in people after a certain period.

Invite people in your house and teach your child basic manners

Do not hesitate to call people to your house. Guests should always be welcomed at the doorstep. Some people do not like calling guests because they feel tired to serve them. But this ill-attitude spoils children's ' attitude and behavior. When only people enter into your house frequently, your child learns to live with people. You can easily teach your children basic manners such as wishing the guests and saying good bye to the guests.

Games to improve social skills

You can simply play a ball game with your child. Throw a ball at your child and tell your child to throw back the ball to you. In this way, they learn the concept of give and take. They also learn to respond to your questions. Even if they are not willing to throw the ball back to you, keep on throwing ball at them. So, finally, they return the ball to you. You can play the game of clapping hands together. You clap your hand to the hand of your child in different ways. Clap your right hand to the left hand of your child and vice-versa. Otherwise, you can dance with your child also.

Speak with them in a questionable mode

You only ask questions to your child and do not be much bothered weather they are responding to your or not.

Avoid the usage of television and other devices of entertainment

Do not encourage your child to sit in front of television frequently. They become self-centered and do not even bother to respond to your questions. Whenever, you are free, interact with your child or take your child outdoors for sometime and show him or her the beauty of nature. When they look at the world around them, then automatically, they learn the skills of socializing by learning the behavior of people around them.

It is rightly said that charity begins at home. That applies in the case to letting the children learn social skills also. First of all the parents themselves are required to spend due time with the children. They have to play with them since infancy. Earlier in the joint family system, other family members used to take care of the child, but with the disintegration of the joint families, the onus lies mostly on parents. In metro cities, where both the parents are working, putting children in daycare also helps in enabling them to acquire social skills. There children spent time with other children of their own age group under supervision of daycare professionals. In developed countries like US etc., parents don't hesitate in putting their children in daycare after the age of six months only in contrast to India where many mothers leave the jobs to rear the child.
