If some one is interested in Science Fiction stories may find this article interesting and have some ideas on Science fiction to create also. This article is an attempt to be with few science Fiction short stories.

Introduction

The writer Sujatha who is a famous writer in Tamil for his relating science with common things happened around and there are different kind of linking science with stories and one among them is Science Fiction. He has described science in Science Fiction is used to create new rules of interaction which need not be accurate hard science fiction fantalizes a lot. For this kind of Science Fiction, he had quoted some examples from English stories, . Yarby's Dune story, Moisture is wealth and not gold/silver.The other few science fiction writers he recommends are Ursula La Guin, Clifford Symack, Ray Bradbury, Brian Aldiss, Thoedore Sturgeon and Douglas Adams.

The stories he created as science fiction were of different kinds like soft Science Fiction which has a concept called cognitive estrangement which will have estranged world with some recognizable contemporary emotion and another kind is placing an ancient ritual in modern setting.and for these kind of stories, he even recommends stories of writers Brian Aldiss collection called Untouched by human hands and Ira Levin's Novel Rosemary's Baby. He also said that it is more difficult and challenging to create humour in science fiction. He also told about science fiction stories that sometimes it may even embarrassing (like some destruction or wars) though many times gratifying if we see some of our science fiction comes true in our life time itself.

Story: Thimala

This short Science Fiction story is one among many Science Fiction stories of Sujatha which has been written by him for more than 30 to 40 years before and is of Soft Science Fiction kind.

A couple namely Athma and Nithya where Athma is a business man and always busy with his business and his wife Nithya is working in an organization stevi which is like skype of this generation. He describes the business organization of the hero of the story with so many scientific inventions of this generation like computer, touch phone, automatic caller system doing some international business and so always busy with meetings of business men from abroad/

When his wife wanted to spare some time for her, he is saying that they are talking via Stevi only. So she fixed an appointment to visit Thimala and got an appointment in a card(which may be taken equivalent with some on-line message which need not have signature in it and printed on the card something like smart card with Yellow colour) at 20-2-2080 at 10.16 (that is next day as per the story).

The so far technology described by him about some 30 to 40 years before, almost we are now seeing but there is one more he describes we are yet to see. He also narrates about functioning of auto appointment system of a businessman which says about that particular time is not free for him as he has some other appointment and so his wife started crying that her husband has no time to spend with her and this emotion he says Soft Science fiction, that has emotion of a women even in 2080.

But some how the appointment from abroad has been cancelled which made her happy and hence she started planning for her trip by applying leave to her organization and next day she was ready at about 9.00 a.m and call the air taxi (this he describes as it will be picking up the people from the terrace of the building) for travel of more distance and in this story they are 150 km apart from Thimala and after picking her up from her house terrace and again picking up her husband from his office terrace and she enquired the driver about waiting. (He described at the time of emergency, the air taxi may pick up more speed and using the terms like booster and Fuel cells charged etc and fly like rocket)., when her husband is so busy till she picked up him at 10.00 a.m. The system is very much planned with automatic system in Thimala (which is nothing but our Thirumala might be shrinked in 2080 as Thimala )and people visiting Thimala by Air taxi and also the place of halt is again automated with their colour of card of appointment and accordingly the air taxi may take the required platform to land and from their people may proceed directly through a conveyer which takes the form of moving in a belt but getting inside a conveyer, he used the technology of sweeping their appointment card. He describes the same sentiment and emotion of human being who are visiting Thirumala now when they get nearer to the temple and deity and he described with its system, people may see the lord peacefully for few second with usual darshan like other temples of doing Archana in their own language etc., as every mantra is automated in a system so as to choose according to the people's wish.

Also he describes the feeling of other person who are not believed so far also will have a thrilling experience if they visit once to Thimala by ending the word 'Thrilling' uttered by the hero of the story.

Conclusion

I just want to introduce other few Science Fiction in recent times and there is a Tamil Film Indru Netru Naalai which describes about Time machine and showing sentiments around it. Also I have tried some stories which may also fit into this concept of estranged and they are,
Tradition and Rocket Science
and other one after retirement visiting other planet.

An interesting thread on science fiction stories! I immensely like science fiction stories written by Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Issac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke. However, among these four writers, Jules Verne is my all-time favourite. In Bengali, I prefer science fiction stories of Satyajit Ray and Adrish Bardhan. I also like science fiction stories written Jayant Vishnu Narlikar. However, I admit that I don't have much knowledge about science fiction stories in other Indian languages.

Thank you Partha. If you read the link given at the last of the article you can get into two of my forum threads which are also on the trial of science fiction. In one you can see the tradition in Tamil Nadu and the other one tradition of India. Hope you can enjoy them and comment here.

H.G. Well's 'Around the world in 80 days' is a good attempt which I read during my school days. If you can, please mention the names of some other stories so as to enable us to know and read them.

'Around the World in Eighty Days' was written by my favourite author, Jules Verne. Although I like the story immensely, it is basically an adventure story. It can't be classified as science fiction. It was first published in the year 1873.
