The most unique nutrients present in garlic are sulfur compounds like thiosulfinates e.g. allicin, sulfoxides e.g. alliin and dithiins e.g. ajoene. The cardioprotective benefits of garlic are perhaps due to production of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas. The red blood cells take sulfur containing molecules in garlic called polysulfides and use them to produce H2S which help our blood vessels expand and keep our blood pressure in check. Garlic helps in cholesterol and triglyceride reduction and prevents clots formation inside our blood vessels. Ajoene present in garlic is known to have anti-clotting properties. Selenium present in garlic plays an important role in our body's antioxidant system. Antibacterial and antiviral properties of garlic are perhaps its most beneficial feature. Garlic is one very special blessing humans got from nature.

It is believed that when the Asuras, ran away after forcibly taking the 'Amrut' generated by the 'Amrutmanthan', a few drops got sprinkled on the ground , and they became Garlic. That means Garlic has special properties of even saving one from death or it is akin to Amrut.

Proper use of garlic can prevent even from mosquito biting and cure many common and uncommon ailments.

It is probably to prevent us from overconsumption of such a vital herb that nature has put an inbuilt pungent odour which not only drives away others from us, but also causes stenching eruptions from one's own stomach.

Over the years the Indian kitchen has seen the best cooking practices with the usage of Garlic and it is also considered as the must ingredient for the children to get rid of their indigestion problems. Just make some water to boil and put two or three garlic pieces and then leave it to warm. Give that juice to the child for the best results in keeping the stomach clean. Moreover garlic with ginger paste would add up flavor and taste to the food and that is the reason in Hyderabad we find ready made paste of garlic and ginger mixed together in one jar. Gone are days when the house holds were accustomed to make garlic and ginger paste at the home itself without using mixer or grinder. But even that exercise has gone and the people are going for ready made garlic and ginger paste.
