Our trip to Andaman It was our honeymoon trip to Andaman which is something we will never forget in our lifetime. We went for 10 nights and 11 days trip in the month of Dec 2015. Although it was hot and humid during this period, still the spirits were held high. Andaman beaches are the most beautiful beaches I have seen so far. One can hardly believe that they are in India as the culture of preserving the nature demonstrated by people and their attitude for cleanliness were simply top class. There are plenty of things to know, explore and cherish for lifetime. Andaman is known for its ecstatic natural treat, historic monuments, astonishing caves, awe-inspiring water sports and world class sea food. And the best of all is the people, their hospitality and simple way of life. Yes, Andaman is certainly a paradise untouched.
Our Journey As it was our honeymoon trip, I did a thorough study and our trip was extremely well customized covering Havelock, Neil, Port Blair, Baratang, Rangat, Mayabunder, Diglipur. We took our flight from Chennai (during Chennai floods!) and reached Port Blair by 7.30 a.m. Then we had our ferry at 9 am. to Havelock. Trust me, I have seen more than 50 shades of blue. What a picturesque view to stand on the deck and observe the majestic ocean! The view is indescribable and can move any artistic heart into happy tears.
Romantic Experience at Havelock-Radha Nagar Beach-Elephanta Beach We were transferred to hotel by noon and geared up to witness the Asia's glorified beach - Radha Nagar Beach. Undoubtedly, one of the best beaches in the world. We stayed there for next 3 days covering elephanta beach and other beaches with a candle night dinner(Deeply recommended for young couples). We explored underwater world with exploding enthusiasm and mesmerized with the blissful view down under. Romantic place for couples to be in the lap of ocean and rejoice. Here we tried the best of sea food and I bet sea food lovers will experience food-orgasm.
Peace at Neil and Adventure at Diglipur Then we had no heart to leave Havelock but we had no choice either. We proceeded to Neil Island and it was just a day visit and a perfect place to find solace after retirement. I have found my retirement spot! Quite, peaceful, pet dogs, birds and music that will set your heart with nature's harmony. This is a place you will never want to leave. Next morning, we started to Diglipur through the creeks, jungle and in the midst of wild. It was the north extreme of Andaman and a place that is best suited for adventurous people. There are plenty of thrilling encounters to share. This road will take us through tribal areas and one of the oldest tribal community by name 'Jarawa' lives here. It is spectacular experience just to be around the place itself.
Wonder at Ross & Smith and Serenity at Rangat Following day, we went to Ross & Smith Island. This place is something out of the world to say the least. You can only wonder and wonder and wonder... Such is the beauty and I swear this place I miss even now as I type... I strongly recommend you to go there if you ever happen to visit Andaman. They are twin Islands and are connected by a long trail of sand road of 15 feet width right in the middle of ocean. If you stand in that land you experience two shores on either side. It is truly a divine and magical phenomena. Rangat is another small place but has number of beaches where you can simply throw yourself at the shore and relax unending. It is not as famous as other spots but for me, this was unique in its own beauty. Less crowd, more freedom and space. Certainly your heart will crave for more.
Mesmerizing nature at Parrot Island From there we proceeded to Baratang Island and observed the natural mud volcano and limestone caves. A long trekking leads to marvelous caves , one of the biggest limestone caves you will ever see. Next day, we went to parrot island. It was spellbound and jaw dropping sight to witness over 2000 parrots flying at one go and reaching their self constructed island. The sound of 2000 parrots is a spectacular phenomenon which will stay in your heart till life. A very rare sight that will give you a feel of casting in NatGeo documentaries. There were many other places that we went to and the most important memories are shared here. I would be immensely happy to help you out with your trip in case you need.
Our Recommendations Some of the activities to try are: Sea Walk, Scuba diving, Glass bottom viewing, Massage
Must see places: Parrot Island,Ross & Smith Island, Diglipur, Havelock, Neil Island
Shopping wise there is not much Andaman to offer except Con-shells and Andaman printed T shirts. Try local food over there, you will find no heart to leave the place. One suggestion is that if you want to enjoy the beauty thoroughly, and have little relaxed trip then plan for 14 nights and 15 days. Incredible beauty, Incredible people, Incredible food - NIRVANA and in a word ANDAMAN!
I recommend this place as must visit at least once in lifetime!
