So far as the hill stations of the state are concerned, the tourists generally visit Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong. Darjeeling is traditionally known as the 'Queen of the Hill Stations'. Darjeeling and the other two hill stations have many things to offer to the tourists, adventurers and trekkers. However, in the present article, some lesser-known hill stations are being discussed. The tourists will definitely get some memorable experience amidst the pristine glory of the Himalayas in these places.

Lepchajagat

This sleepy Lepcha village is located only at a distance of 18 Kms. from Darjeeling. The beauty of nature of Lepchajagat amidst all-pervading silence is really very hard to believe even from Darjeeling. In the semi-dense forest, leopard and other wild animals can be seen. There is a forest bungalow at Lepchajagat. Buses are regularly available from Darjeeling and Siliguri.

Mirik

Mirik can be described as a nest in the hills. This beautiful place is situated in the lap of Singalila range. A beautiful lake surrounded by the hills ,monastery, tea gardens and orange plantations are the main attractions of the place. Pristine view of the Kanchennjungha and boating in the lake invigorate the tourists. Buses and jeeps are available from Darjeeling and Siliguri for Mirik. Trekkers can trek from Mirik to Sandakphu and Phalut. Short trek from Mirik to Kurseong is popular for new trekkers and nature-lovers.

Sandakphu

Sandakphu is fortunately not very popular among the tourists, but it is a paradise for the adventure lovers. The beauty of fast-flowing River Teesta and the scenic beauty of snow-clad peaks of the Himalayas make the nature-lovers spell-bound. Sandakphu can be reached by jeep from Manebhanjan and Mirik. Experienced trekkers trek to Sandakphu from Manebhanjan and Mirik.

Lava

Lava is located at a distance of 32 Kms. from Kalimpong. It is located at a height of 7200 ft. from sea-level. The tourists get a panoramic view of Jelep La and Rechi La passes from Lava. The Buddhist monastery is another main place for visit. It is another favourite spot for trekkers. Bus service and jeeps are available from Siliguri and Kalimpong. Nowadays some good hotels are available at Labha.

Lolegaon

Lolegaon is located at a distance of 24 Kms. from Lava. Local people call this place 'Kafer'. The beauty of silent forest and the Sunrise Point create a memorable impression in the minds of nature-lovers. Some hotels are available at Lolegaon,, but the tourists may face water shortage at Lolegaon.

Rishyap

Rishyap is known for the silent forest of Pines, Rhododenrons and Orchids. The views of Kanchenjungha, other snow-clad mountains of Sikkim and Nathu La and Jelep La passes are experience of the lifetime. Rishyap is 4 Km. walk uphill from Labha.

How to reach

New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is a very important junction station. Trains from all over India reach NJP. Siliguri is just adjacent to NJP. Siliguri is known as the 'Gateway of the Eastern Himalayas'. The Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus at Siliguri connects every part of Darjeeling District from Siliguri. Jeeps and cars are also available just beside the Bus Terminus. The nearest airport is Bagdogra, located at a distance of 96 Kms. from the city of Darjeeling.

The District of Darjeeling has various similar, less popular, but equally beautiful places which trekkers, adventure-lovers and nature-lovers would love to explore. These are Teestabazar, Dudhia, Jorpokhri, Manebhanjan, Pedong and Phalut. Nature embraces tourists with open arms in these places. Tourists will definitely get rejuvenated in the lap of nature. So visit these places and enjoy the silent beauty of nature for some time.
