What are the different forms of waste that can generate electricity

Looking for information on alternative sources of energy? This article provides details on what are the different forms of waste that can generate electricity and the importance of Bio-waste as the need of the hour.

Electricity or power or current is the most important need of our daily life. As we say our basic needs are food, shelter and clothing, but if you want to add further electricity and water should be added to this basic need list because in almost all sectors we need electricity. Sectors like Agricultural sector, Industrial Sector, Information Technology, Educational Sector, Research sector and Household purposes, etc. needs electricity, At present we do have a shortage of electricity that is why we do have lots of power cuts. So let us know about what are the different forms of Bio waste that we can use to generate electricity and also used as a fuel to run vehicles

Generate electricity from human and animal excretions

Cow dung, human waste, pig waste, hen waste can be used to generate electricity. It is called as bio gas this is used in many developed countries for the purpose of generating electricity and also used as fuel to run vehicles. A bio reactor, which converts the waste into methane gas, where methane gas is used for cooking purposes and also used to generate electricity.

Generate electricity from waste

Domestic waste includes like food wastage and other types of waste particles, street waste (used batteries, covers, papers, etc.) can be used for producing electricity. As the Garbage gets heated in a furnace, on the top of the furnace pour cool water and that will convert into steam, steam is sent to turbines to generate electricity.

Generate electricity from fruits and vegetables

In our school, days we have done one familiar experiment, i.e. to generate electricity from vegetables and the most of times we chose potato. The potato has a capacity to generate electricity. Potato contains a high percentage of carbohydrates and fatty acids that act as a catalyst to generate electricity. Tomato and lemon juice are also used to generate electricity. To do the experiment we should have an electric wire, one galvanizing nail and copper coin, both these acts as electrodes cut the potato in two pieces place galvanizing nail in one half of the potato and place copper another half of the potato and tied the copper wire of both these (galvanizing nail, copper coin), take one serial bulb attaches that wire into it and see the bulb glows. In vegetable markets or fruit markets we see lots of fruits and vegetables are wasted (which are not useful for eating) & these wastes can be used to generate electricity.

Generate electricity from urine or pee

It is said that urine or pee can be used to generate electricity & one liter of pee can generate six hours of electricity through some electrolysis. This is called pee-powered generator.

Bio-waste can be used as a fuel to run vehicles

As diesel and petrol fuels are having high prices, Bio-waste can be used as a fuel to run public transport vehicles and private vehicles and these vehicles are said to be pollution free. United Kingdom has introduced the first Bio waste public transport bus. It runs on Bio-methane gas.

All these innovations are at initial stage or phased to use it in commercial purposes or for larger extent because converting Bio-waste into electricity is a costly affair. However, it will not be long when Technological Advancement in Bio-reactors (which converts bio-waste into electricity) will become much more economical and used for many purposes like fuel in vehicles, producing electricity for household purposes, agricultural sectors (In our country, many farmers are doing suicide due to inadequate electricity or power supply). Along with this Bio waste can be used to light the bulbs, rotate the fans, Air conditioners and pantry car in railways.

Final Note:

As like to wind and solar energies Bio gas is pollution free and clean in nature.

While there may be different form of wastes that can be converted and generated into fuel, but the garbage which is being accumulated in every cities piling up in tonnes at the garbage yards must be put into right use of generating electricity. It is normally found that garbage yards are situated in the outskirts of city and the dumping yards are turned to be a burning yards. As necessary expertise is not available with some state governments, the dumping yard which contains huge garbage are being confined to flames and public money is wasted in transporting garbage to that yard.
