Government is conducting various competitive examinations for the candidates who completed their undergraduate degree. In this, one of the competitive exams is SSC CGL.

This examination will be conducted for the recruitment of various posts in the different sectors like Ministries, departments, Grade B officer in organizations (Non Gazette) and Grade C (Non technical).

Grade B posts

It contains following three phases (tires). The first two tires are written tests with multiple choice questions and the third tier exam is the computer proficiency test or skill test. It depends on the job which you have selected. Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam is same for all posts. It will be conducted on May 8th and 22nd. Mostly, Govt. sector exams will be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays.

Subjects to prepare for the exam

For any competitive examination your talent/skill will be tested. This exam mainly contains four subjects and they are:
  1. General Intelligence and Reasoning - 50 questions
  2. General Awareness – 50 questions
  3. Quantitative aptitude – 50 questions
  4. English Comprehension – 50 questions


Question paper contains totally 200 questions. This is multiple choice question paper. You should complete within the time limit and the time duration is 2 hours. If the answer is wrong then negative mark will be one-fourth of the reference marks. You should be very careful during the examination. Maintain proper time management. If you are lacking in this concept then try to follow like this. Divide the 2 hours time for four sections as per your understanding the subject. To be in comfort zone you should know how to spend the time on each section separately. First of all we will see Exam pattern and later on time management. The question paper with all four sections and time allocation should be like:
  1. Quantitative aptitude - 40 Minutes
  2. General intelligence and reasoning – 35 Minutes
  3. English comprehension – 25 Minutes
  4. General awareness 20 Minutes


Share your valuable 2 hours time slightly like this. I think this is sufficient. Moreover the following matters should be noted when considered in topic wise.

English Language

Many students think that it is the toughest subject/section compared to the remaining topics. Always, it will be better for you to start with English section considering the facts like Shortage of time, tiredness etc.

Which things should be considered to start any section and why? Here is the answer for you.
  • Vocabulary questions should attempt first. It contains only one word and easy to grasp the answer with a fresh mind. You can complete more number of questions in a short period.
  • Next part in this section is: Error identification. We have not focused on grammar part up to tenth standard. Regular practice on grammar topics made you easy to choose the right answers.
  • You can go to fill the gaps part. Filling the blanks/gaps is also easy part. You should exercise tenses topic to get good marks.
  • You should attempt Reading comprehension at the last moment. It always goes on two ways. First one is: how much fast you can read and the other understands the concept. Only then we should know the meaning of the passage. We can get in-depth knowledge and know everything in detail later.
  • You should attempt, Paragraph formation and Jumbled paragraph parts are at the last moment. It is a very good thing.
  • This is the good way of utilizing the time for English section.


Quantitative Aptitude

In this section, every topic is important and any topic should not be ignored. The topics covered in the Quant section are as follows:

    • Profit and Loss
    • Partnership
    • Geometry
    • Mensuration
    • Numbers
    • Algebraic expressions
    • Trigonometries
  2. Next-level important topics are:
    • Equations
    • Ratio and Proportion
    • Variations
    • Simple and Compound Interest
    • Time and work
    • Time-speed-distances


Reasoning

The topics should cover under this section is:
  1. The questions should be attempt first from the following topics:
    • Series
    • Analogy
    • Coding – Decoding
    • Odd man out is important
  2. Second level questions are from the topics:
    • Word formation
    • Dictionary order
    • Venn diagrams and cubs
    • Non Verbal Reasoning

The questions based on Sequence, Missing number, counting triangles are tricky ones. Therefore, we have to attempt these types of questions at the end of the exam. You should take utmost care while attempting answers to deductions and critical reasoning. You should not show negligence at any situations.

General Awareness

Read the question thoroughly to figure out the answer. Single line questions should be attempt first. Remaining should be later. Guessing will not work out here. This section contains a very large portion of syllabus and hence it takes more time. Important concepts and definitions in General Science, General Studies should be check. Do not waste time in the examination hall for the unknown questions. Study the question first. If you are not able to get the answer then leave it and go on. Persistent attitude will not work out here.

You should realize that your deadline is 120 minutes for 200 questions. However, there may be a change in questions and its asking pattern. Therefore don't get upset look like. It is a good idea to be prepared mentally for that type of questions. Attempt the questions which are easy for you. You can use the remaining time for tough questions which you have left. Do not worry, when harsh questions been asked. The rest of the requesters will have the same kind of dismay. Do not hold at the question. The time will be wasted unnecessarily if doing so.

General intelligence and English sections contains only theory part. So it is easy to get good score. It is the toughest part too. Remembering the theory part is not so easy. It needs lot of time and patience. Do not forget about the negative marks. It leads to decline in the score. So don't try to guess the answer. You should keep in mind that if you choose the wrong answer then negative mark will be added to your score. Hence chances are more to get fewer marks. You need to have grip on Basics and conceptual facts. Get good score to be in the final list. We must remember this always.
