National School of Drama Diploma Course in Dramatic Arts admissions 2016

The National School of Drama, Delhi, India has issued the 2016 admission notification inviting applications from eligible students to apply for admission to its 3-year Diploma course in Dramatic Arts.

About the Diploma course

The primary goal of the course is to offer education & training to make you a complete professional in the fields of acting, design and varied theatre-related disciplines. The faculty will conduct lectures in English and Hindi.

Duration

This is a 3 year full time residential course. For the academic session 2016 to 2019, the course will begin in July 2016.

Number of seats

There are 26 seats for this Diploma course. Reservations is as follows:
  • 4 seats: Scheduled caste candidates.

  • 1 + 1 seat: Scheduled tribe candidate, including N.T.

  • 7 seats: OBC candidates (except Creamy Layer as notified by the Government) and physically disabled persons, as per Govt. of India rules.

Scholarship

The selected student will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs.6,000/- p.m. for academic and related expenses.



Curriculum

The dramatic arts course curriculum ensures in-depth training which incorporates the methodology of well known personalities from the theatre world. Drama traditions of both India and other countries, contemporary global trends in theatre and the myriad aspects of traditional folk theatre are part of the learning modules.

  1. 1st year: Introduction to acting, theatre techniques and theatre design.

  2. 2nd year: Theatre History, Literature and Aesthetics. Other than these 3 aspects, students have to opt for a specialization in either Acting or in Theatre Techniques & Design

  3. 3rd year: You will continue with the same specialisation which you opted for in your second year.

Eligibility requirements

  1. Age criteria: The age limit as on 1st July 2016 is 20 years minimum and 30 years maximum.

  2. Academic qualification: You must be a graduate in any subject from a recognized university in India or abroad.

  3. Theatre experience: You must have participated in at least 6 theatre productions.

  4. General skills: You must have working knowledge of English and Hindi.

  5. Physical fitness: You will need to be physically fit. If selected for the course,

Selection process

There will be a preliminary test / audition and a final workshop through which the aptitude and talent of the candidate will be assessed by an expert committee. The requisite study material & general guidelines will be given with the prospectus (online as well as hard copy).

Preliminary test/audition

The preliminary test/audition schedule is as follows:
  • 13th June 2016 at Guwahati

  • 15th and 16th June 2016 at Kolkata

  • 18th and 19th June 2016 at Lucknow

  • 21st June 2016 at Chandigarh

  • 23rd June 2016 at Bhopal

  • 25th to 27th June 2016 at Mumbai

  • 29th June 2016 at Bangalore (Bengaluru)

  • 1st July to 4th July 2016 at Delhi

Workshop details

Once you qualify through the test, you will need to attend a workshop for 5 days in the Delhi campus premises of the National School of Drama, from 10th to 14th July 2016.

You will be paid D.A. and a 3-tier sleeper class train fare / bus fare from your residence to Delhi & back via the shortest route. To avail of the fare, you will need to submit the ticket/cash receipt. You will also be provided accommodation on sharing basis.

  1. You can obtain the application form & prospectus (in English & Hindi) by post. You can request it to be sent to you by writing to:

    You have to send your request along with a crossed Demand Draft/Pay Order, payable at Delhi, of Rs.225/- (including postal charges) in favour of The Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi. Your request should reach by 16th May 2016.

  2. You can obtain the application form & prospectus from the book shop of the National School of Drama from 5th May 2016 to 30th May 2016 on cash payment of Rs.150/- between 10a.m. to 1p.m. and from 2p.m. to 5p.m. on working days.

  3. You can download the application form from the official website: www.nsd.gov.in from 2nd May 2016. Fill in the downloaded form and send to the address mentioned in #1 above, along with a Demand Draft of Rs.150/- in favour of The Director, National School of Dram, New Delhi in an envelope titled "Application for Admission – 2016-2019".

Last date for receipt of application form: 30th May 2016.
