"Star War" constituency Pathanapuram
Elections to the 140 Assembly seats in Kerala are to be held on May 16, 2016. The votes counting is scheduled for 19 th May and all the results are expected to be declared on the same day.
Though each constituency is important as far as the political parties and political observers are concerned, this time, for the public as well as political observers Pathanapuram evokes a special interest and curiosity. This is because in this constituency the candidates of the three main parties(or fronts) are popular movie actors from Malayalam films.
It is unique that all the main contestants are popular movie stars. Kerala electorate did not give much importance to film personalities just because they are film stars. Generally the stars also stayed free of strong political affiliations activities.
Hence the May 2016 elections for Kerala Assembly in the Pathanpauram constituency can be said as "Star Wars". Though another film star Mukesh is contesting from another constituency, Pathanapuram gains limelight because all the three main contestants are popular film stars.

In Pathanapuram, the 'star war' is taking another dimension also. That was almost unexpected.
Malayalam movie Super Star Mohanlal came to Pathanapuram to 'give best wishes' to his close friend of many decades Sri.GaneshKumar, who is the LDF candidate in Pathanapuram. Along with him was the Priyadarsan the noted film director.
Prompt came the reaction from Jagdish, the UDF candidate . He said he was pained to see Mohanlal who is his friend coming and giving best wishes only for the rival candidate. He even made certain allegations(which he later withdrew) which he said was the reason for Lal's coming to support GaneshKumar. Not to be left out, the BJP candidate Raghu Damodaran(Bheeman Raghu) retorted that he does not mind MohanLa's coming and campaigning, but he was sure that even if Amitabh Bachan comes he(BJP) will win.
Central award winning comedian-turned character actor Salim Kumar declared that he resigned from "AMMA"- Association of Malyala Movie Artists) in protest against Mohan Lal's campaigning for one candidate when there was some unwritten understanding that officials of AMMA will not take sides. So it star war in another way also.
The TV channels have adopted the whole issue and are continuing(when posting this) with news report and panel discussions involving politicians , actors and political observers.
