GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test, better known by its abbreviated form GMAT, is necessary if you are aspiring to take up a post graduate management program or business-oriented programs. Thus if you are going to do an MBA or an MS or even a Ph.D. course in the field of management abroad, you need to appear for GMAT. Regularly scheduled at various times of the year each year, the scores you get will be accepted for admission to reputed universities in USA, UK, Canada, Australia and other countries abroad.

About GMAT

  1. The GMAT is conducted by GMAC

  2. It is a computer based test of 3½ hours duration.

  3. It tests 3 core segments: Verbal skills, Quantitative skills and Analytical skills and Integrated Reasoning.

  4. Any score upwards of 650 is considered very good.

  5. The score you obtain in GMAT is valid for a period of 5 years.

  6. You can register for it through 4 modes: online mode, via telephone, via FAX or via post.

  7. Documentary proof for registration: Passport (in original & having validity - should not be an out-dated one).

  8. Fee: US$250 for the test + US$28 as additional score reporting fee requested for after test day for each institute. The fee can be paid either through an international debit card or via a Bank Draft.

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is for you if you wish to take up an Master's level program abroad in the fields of Arts, Science, Technology, etc. Thus if you want to pursue MA, MSc. or Ph.D. abroad, you need to appear for GRE. The GRE scores you obtain will be accepted for admission to most reputed American universities and a few ones in Canada, UK, Australia & New Zealand.

About GRE

  1. It is conducted by ETS-Prometric

  2. It is a computer based test of 95 minutes duration.

  3. It tests 3 core segments: Verbal skills, Quantitative skills and Analytical skills.

  4. Any score upwards of 1300 is considered very good.

  5. The score you obtain in GRE is valid for a period of 5 years.

  6. You can register for it through 4 modes: online mode, via telephone, viaFAX or via post.

  7. Documentary proof for registration: Passport (in original & having validity - should not be an outdated one)

  8. Fee: US$205 for the test + US$27 for additional score report (ASR). The fee can be paid either through an international credit/debit card or via a money order/certified check (payable to ETS-GRE)/voucher. Note that if the payment is not in US dollars, then you must make the payment in either British pounds or Canadian dollars or Euro or Japanese yen, which are the other accepted currencies at the Telegraphic Transfer Selling (TTS) exchange rate of the U.S. dollar equivalent.

SAT

The scores of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is the accepted norm for admission to undergraduate programs in USA and has been overhauled & re-designed as of 2016. Scheduled seven times a year each year on prefixed dates as per the US-based College Board, the SAT scores are compulsory to get admissions to an American university as also a few reputed ones in Canada.

About new SAT

  1. It is conducted by ETS College Board

  2. It is a paper based test of 3 hours duration + 50 minutes for writing the essay

  3. It tests 3 core segments: Writing skills, Critical reading skills and mathematical skills.

  4. The score ranges is 200 to 800 on each of 2 sections and the essay is cored on a scale of 0 to 24.

  5. While the score you obtain in SAT is valid for a period of 5 years, note that some of the colleges where you apply for admission may not accept the scores of the old SAT test if these scores are 2-3 years old. It is clearly stated that "Official score reports sent to colleges five or more years after a test date are accompanied by a message explaining that they may be less valid predictors of college academic performance than more recent scores." So it is advisable to confirm with the college if your old SAT scores are valid prior to applying for admission.

  6. You can register for it through 2 modes: online mode or via post.

  8. Fee: US$ 105 for the test + US$11.25 score reporting fee for each institute. The fee can be paid either through an international debit card or via a Bank Draft.

IELTS

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is compulsory if you wish to pursue studies in Australia. You have to appear for IELTS not only to take up admissions to an undergraduate or graduate program in Australia, but also for immigration purposes. The IELTS score is accepted in Australia and New Zealand as well as in UK, Canada, Singapore, Dubai and most universities in USA.

Note that students from non-English speaking countries who are pursuing studies abroad in UK universities need to take the IELTS. Further, as a Tier 4 Student Visa applying for admission to a UK university which is a Tier 4 Sponsor to study a bachelor or postgraduate degree, you will need to fulfil the English language level requirements as set by that university.

The test is available for up to 4 times per month and is of 2 types: (1) Academic Version and (2) General Training Version.

About IELTS

  1. It is conducted by the University of Cambridge ESOL, British Council and IDP

  2. It is a paper based test of 3 hours duration and a personal interview.

  3. It tests Reading skills, Writing skills, Speaking skills and Listening skills. Additionally, general training reading and general training writing are part of the IELTS General Training test.

  4. Any score upwards of 6.5 is considered very good.

  5. The score you obtain in IELTS is valid for a period of 2 years.

  6. You can register for it through 2 modes: online mode or by personally submitting the requisite registration form at an officially designated IELTS test centre.

  7. Documentary proof for registration: Passport (in original & having validity - should not be an out-dated one)

  8. Fee: The British Council offers IELTS tests in 42 locations in India with a fee of INR 11,100 (for tests after 1st April 2016).

TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a compulsory exam for all students of India who wish to pursue undergraduate and post graduate programs in USA and Canada. It is to gauge your English language proficiency and is for students of other countries too whose native language is not English. With TOEFL scores you can get admissions to universities in USA & Canada and a few universities in UK and New Zealand for their UG, graduate, MBA and doctoral programs. You can take the test any number of times, but not more than once during a 12-day time frame.

About TOEFL

  1. The TOEFL is conducted by ETS-Prometric

  2. It is an Internet-based test (thus it is known as TOEFL-iBT) of 4 hours duration.

  3. It tests 4 core segments: reading skills, writing skills, listening skills and speaking skills.

  4. Any score upwards of 90+ is considered very good.

  5. The score you obtain in TOEFL is valid for a period of 2 years.

  6. You can register for it through 4 modes: online mode, via telephone or via post.

  7. Documentary proof for registration: Passport (in original & having validity - should not be an out-dated one).

  8. Fee: US$170 for the test + reporting fee (confirm how much from official website). The fee can be paid either through an international debit card or via a Bank Draft.

PTE

The Pearson Test for Academic purpose (PTE Academic) is the exam you need to appear for if your spoken native language is not English and you wish to pursue an academic program in an educational institute abroad where the primary medium of instruction is English. Scores of PTE Academic can secure you admission to an undergraduate or graduate program in over a thousand institutes across the globe. It incorporates a 30 hours training spread over three to four weeks.



About PTE-Academic

  1. The PTE-Academic is conducted by Pearson - VUE

  2. It is a computer based test of 3 hours duration.

  3. It tests 4 core segments: reading skills, writing skills, listening skills and speaking skills.

  4. Any score upwards of 70+ is considered very good.

  5. The score you obtain in PTE-Academic is valid for a period of 2 years.

  6. You can register for it through the online mode.

  7. Documentary proof for registration: Passport (in original & having validity - should not be an out-dated one).

  8. Fee: Rs. 10,900/- (for late booking the fee is Rs.13,625/-). The fee can be paid through an international debit card.

  9. Results of PTE are generally declared within five working days.
