Indian graduates who want to pursue post-graduate studies abroad but need financial assistance to do so can apply for the K.C. Mahindra Scholarship. The program was founded in 1956 by the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET), and since then has provided over USD 25 million in the form of scholarships, grants and loans to help students from all economic backgrounds and of all ages achieve their dreams. The funds are derived from the investment portfolio of the trustees, the biggest donor of which is the Mahindra Group of companies.

K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad


The trustees of KCMET at present offer 50 scholarships for postgraduate studies overseas. The top 3 applicants receive a maximum of 8 lakhs each for one year. The remaining applicants receive a maximum of 2 lakhs each. To qualify, an applicant must have earned a first class in their undergraduate degree from a recognized Indian university. The applicant should also have a letter of acceptance from a foreign university to whose postgraduate course they have been accepted. Admission must also be for a course beginning in February or September.

Applicants who are in their final year of Bachelor's or other undergrad studies can also apply for the scholarships, as long as they can provide their final year certificate and mark sheet by the end of June.

The application form is available online, through the KCMET website. The form needs to be downloaded, printed on a full scape sheet, completed and mailed to the following address:

The last date for the current application rounds has already expired on 31 March 2016. The end of March is the usual deadline for applications each year. Students are usually notified of the interview date by the end of May. The final interview for the award is typically held in July of each year.

KCMET announces application opening dates in major newspapers each year, so students should keep an eye out for the dates or visit the official website. In order to increase chances of success in obtaining the scholarship, applicants should make sure that all their sources of finances be mentioned in the application. The applicant's aptitude and motivations are the major factors affecting the chances of winning the award. It is most recommended for students who have a clear plan for their career in the future and are only awaiting the completion of all the practical requirements.

KCMET also offers a UWC Scholarship to younger students between 16 and 18 years, giving them the opportunity to study at the United World Colleges, that comprises of 15 schools and colleges, spread across the globe – in the US, China, Swaziland and Singapore etc. The KCMET's main aim in offering these scholarships and grants is to bring about economic and social development by empowering the population, within the foundation's means, to be more literate and enlightened when they return to India.
