I want to point out that the title is misleading. Four of the five items mentioned here are nuts. Other than raisins, the rest of the foods mentioned in this article, are nuts.

The following benefits are associated with nuts –

1. They are an excellent source of protein.
2. Nuts are not just rich in healthy fatty acids and vitamins but are also a good source of minerals, particularly calcium, zinc, iron, potassium and magnesium.
3. They have a predominantly high content of vitamin E.
4. Most have healthy amounts of niacin, folate and other B vitamins.

Apart from benefits there are a few drawbacks linked to nuts as well –

1. They have high calorie and fat content and can be fattening if eaten in excess
2. The oils turn rancid very quickly, especially in the presence of oxygen
3. They can also cause allergies
