What is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a social welfare scheme initiated by Indian Government on 1st May 2016. Government wants to stop the usages of unclean cooking fuel mostly in rural areas providing LPG connections to women from BPL category Indian households through PMUY scheme. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas will implement the scheme.
As most people in urban areas use unclean fossil fuel for cooking and mostly women are the main cook of families, they face serious heal hazards always due to the pollution by burning such fuels which lead to even death! Not only that due to the same reason home air is being polluted and many young children have been suffering from acute respiratory issues because of home air pollution.
To empower women and minimize such women health issues, numbers of death, illness of young children etc.; Modi Govt. has launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme.
Key features of PM Ujjwala Yojana Under this scheme, it has been planned to distribute 5 crore LPG connections in the name of women head of the households belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) category across the country. The govt. has allocated a budget of Rs. 8000 crore for distribution of LPG connections among more than 5 crore BPL households across 36 states and UTs during a time frame of 36 months for financial year 2016 - 17, 2017 - 18 and 2018 - 19 out of which Rs. 2000 crore has already been allocated for the running financial year to distribute LPG connections to 1.5 crore families within this year. Money saved in name of LPG subsidy through the campaign known as "Give-it-Up" will be utilized for this scheme. In addition, EMI facility against cost of burner as well as refill will also be provided by the govt.
In a nutshell, the scheme is nothing but a free LPG Cylinder Scheme for BPL Women.
Who are eligible for the scheme
Application procedures Interested candidates may submit a filled in KYC application form of 2 page in prescribed format along with all supporting documents as mentioned below to the nearest LPG distributor.
Candidate's name, detailed address, Jan Dhan / Bank account details, Ration card details, Aadhar card details etc. have to be mentioned in application form during form fill up. Whether they have a requirement of 14.2 Kg cylinder or only 5 Kg cylinder is sufficient for them has to be indicated clearly in specified space provided in the form. Not only that, details like name of each household member, relation of each of them with applicants and their Aadhar card numbers have to be provided during form fill up.
Interested candidates may download prescribed format of application form available in both English and Hindi version clicking on relevant word.
Applicants may also obtain application form for availing loan on refill / LPG stove in English or Hindi clicking respective language.
