University of Southampton, UK invites applications from eligible students to pursue a MSc in Finance and Econometrics programme. This opportunity to study abroad in UK is at the university's School of Social Sciences. The programme will begin in September 2016.

About the programme

The goal of the MSc in Finance and Econometrics post graduate programme is to provide in-depth knowledge of and training in advanced econometric techniques which can be applied to the field of finance. You will get an understanding of the quantitative aspects of the subject through classroom lectures, seminars, research workshops and group or individual project work.



Duration

You will pursue the MSc in Finance and Econometrics programme for 9 months, subsequent to which you will undergo 3 months of supervised research during the summer months for a Masters' dissertation. It is thus overall of 12 months duration.

You also have the option to pursue the program on a part-time basis for a duration of 2 years, with the same modules as the full-time programme.

What you will learn

At the start of the programme, you will undergo 2 modules covering Preliminary Mathematics and Statistics. These are the foundation modules to help you develop basic quantitative skills that would be required for your later academic core modules of the MSc in Finance and Econometrics programme.

A. Semester 1:
  1. Economic Analysis

  2. Econometrics I

  3. Corporate Finance

  4. Financial Economics & Asset Pricing

  5. Empirical Finance

  6. Time Series Econometrics

  7. Panel Data & Micro econometrics


B. Semester 2 optional modules are:
  1. Labour Economics

  2. Industrial Economics

  3. International Trade

  4. Economic Policy in Development

  5. Experimental Economics

The above optional modules are in addition to a few of the compulsory modules of Semester one, namely Empirical Finance, Time Series Econometrics, Panel Data & Micro econometrics and a core module of Principles of Corporate Finance.

Programme fee and scholarship

The fee for the MSc in Finance and Econometrics programme is £16800. You can avail of scholarships of £3,000 and £5,000 which are offered to all students who are enrolled for any of the MSc programmes. The scholarships will be in the form of a reduction in the tuition fee.



Eligibility requirements

  1. You should have an undergraduate degree in Economics with percentage in the upper second-class or higher level. Candidates with graduation in related subjects with a strong academic background and fulfilling other criteria may also be considered.

  2. You must have an academic background in quantitative methods, such as Mathematics, Statistics or Econometrics.

  3. You need to have an overall 6.5 IELTS score for English language requirements, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component including reading, writing, listening and speaking.
