What is BIRAC Innovation Fellowship- Basic details for 2016 applications

BIRAC Innovation Fellowship

BIRAC in Anna University initiated University Innovation cluster which is basically a pre-incubation Center. The main aim of this initiation is to support the innovations, creations and entrepreneurship of Doctorate and post doctorate students. It supports them financially and fosters their determination in creating something new.

As the fellowships are very attractive, the meritorious students are advised to apply for the same at Anna University UIC with their innovations and business plans.

What is the scope and who can apply

This fellowship is truly for marketing of innovations in Biotechnology Sector. The main areas for this fellowship are Bio process Technology and Healthcare Diagnostics. Candidates who have done their post graduations or their doctorate on or before 1st January 2013 can apply for this fellowship for Doctorate of post doctorate respectively.

For the field of Healthcare Diagnostics


Post Graduate Fellowship details
  • Number of posts- 2

  • Amount of stipend- It has a consolidated amount of Rs. 30000/- per month and Rs. 2,00,000/-per year with validity of 2 years.

  • Required qualification-Candidates with Masters in Life Science, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology and Bio chemistry can apply for this fellowship. Other allied disciplines like Clinical medicines, Pharmaceutical technology, Bio Physics are also eligible.

  • Preferred qualification-The dissertation topics should be related to healthcare and candidates should have got an experimental experience of such healthcare related diagnostic products. Candidates who are having prior industrial experience in the field of healthcare are always preferred.

Post Doc Fellowship
  • Number of posts- 1

  • Amount of stipend- It has a consolidated amount of Rs. 50000/- per month and Rs. 5,00,000/- per year valid for 2 years
    per year

  • Required qualification- Candidates with PhD in the field of Biotechnology, Life Science, Bio chemistry and Biomedical Engineering are eligible for this. Other allied disciplines like Bio Physics, Clinical medicines and Pharmaceutical technology are also allowed for this fellowship.

  • Preferred qualification- Candidate should have done his or her doctorate in the field related to Healthcare and should have experienced the laboratory validation of diagnostic methods.

For the field of Bio process Technology

Post Graduate Fellowship details
  • Number of posts- 2

  • Amount of stipend- It has a consolidated amount of Rs. 30000/- per month and Rs. 2,00,000/-per year with validity of 2 years.

  • Required qualification- Candidates with Masters in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Life Science, Food Technology and Pharmaceutical technology are eligible for this fellowship.

  • Preferred qualification- The Dissertation topic should be related to experimentation for commercial products and he or she may have industrial experience as a field work.

Post Doc Fellowship
  • Number of posts- 1

  • Amount of stipend- It has a consolidated amount of Rs. 50000/- per month and Rs. 5,00,000/- per year valid for 2 years
    per year

  • Required qualification- A doctorate in the field of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Life Science, Food Technology and Pharmaceutical technology are eligible for this fellowship.

  • Preferred qualification- The topic of PhD should be related to Bio process technology. Candidate should have an idea about the concept of intermediates in commercial Bio process for industrial purpose. An industrial experience is the biggest advantage for them.

Candidates need to write a proposal under UIC scheme and then to submit as hard copy as well as soft copy format titled as "Application for the Award of BIRAC Innovation Fellowship" The soft copy should be e-mailed to"uicbau@gmail.com".

The hard copy should be couriered to- "Chief Coordinator, University Innovation Cluster, Center for Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai 600025".
