A complete guide on how to apply for a new PAN card in India


Do you want to apply for PAN card in India buut don't know how to apply? You don't need to go to an agent to apply for PAN card. This article will help you for applying a PAN card online.

In India, as the earning potential of a common man increases, there arises a need to get a PAN card to file income tax returns . But, some people find it some what difficult to apply for a PAN card. Some go to the Agents to apply for their PAN card, where the agent will demand a service fee other than the Application fees. But, instead of going to an agent, you can apply for a PAN card online on your own and it's not that much a difficult process. In this article, I am going to guide you how to Apply.

A person can apply for a new PAN card through online mode in India. If you go to an agent, he will also apply online only for your PAN card. The only difference is that he will collect an additional service fee for himself along with the PAN Application fee.

You can apply for a new PAN card if you already don't have one. A new "Permanent Account Number (PAN)" will be allotted to you which is a unique for every one. If you already have a PAN card and if you lost it you can apply for a duplicate one by filling the request form online. But, the Same permanent Account Number will be assigned to you as you have before. No person is allowed to have more than one Permanent Account Number. If you want to make a correction, such as changing the address for the PAN card, then you can made a request by filling online application for it.

So, I am going to explain the various ways to apply for PAN card online and the step by step procedure is as follows:

First method:

Filling the application online and sending the documents by speed post

In the first method, you can fill the PAN Application online ,pay the application fee and send the printed application along with the document proofs by speed post to NSDL. The step by step process for this method is as follows:

Application process

Go to https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/newpan.html and select Form-49A for New PAN card.

In this you have to fill your details in the online application and pay the application fees of Rs.107. After payment you will get an Acknowledgement receipt with an Acknowledgement number. Now, take a print out of the system generated Application with a unique acknowledgement number.

The document proofs that you have to send are as follows:

Proof of identity:

Aadhar Card, Voter I'd and others as shown while filling the application ( Any one is enough)

Proof of Address:

Aadhar Card,Voter I'd and others as shown while filling the application ( Any one is enough)

D.O.B proof:

matriculation certificate (10th class) , date of birth certificate(issued by municipal authority), and others as shown while filling the application form (Any one is Enough)

Note:

You can use Aadhar card as both "proof of identity" and "proof of address".

Now, attach proof of identity, proof of address, and date of birth proof along with the print out of Application of Acknowledgement receipt. Affix the Application with two passport size photos and sign on the application .Send these by speed post to the Address mentioned below:
INCOME Tax PAN Services Unit,
NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited,
5th floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341,
Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony,
Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune - 411016.

You will get your PAN card to the Address that you mentioned in your PAN Application with in 15 days after they received your documents. I myself received my PAN card in 16 days after they received my documents by speed post. It may range from 15-20 days.

Another method :

Completely applying online without having the need to send documents by post

There is another way where you can apply for PAN card other than using the Web link mentioned above.

The below mentioned method of applying PAN card is the latest method of applying which provides the option to get a PAN card without having the need to send the documents by speed post. This by by authenticating using digital signature (or) Aadhar based E-Signature.

Digital Signature certificate: you can know more about it at: https://www.tin-nsdl.com/pan-verify/faq-pan-verify-DSC.php

Aadhar based E-Signature: For this , you need to have an Aadhar Number and a mobile number linked with Aadhar number is mandatory as you will get an OTP for verification.

Application process:

Go to https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html and click on Apply online and fill your details .Here, you have to upload your Photo, signature, and upload your Identity proof's online.

After that It will ask you to select one of the options as mentioned below:
(I) Apply physically by sending the documents by post.
(Il) Authenticate using digital signature certificate
(lll) E-sign using Aadhar ( Need a mobile number linked with aadhar to get OTP).

By selecting any one of the above options you need to pay the application fees of Rs.107 +rs.8 (if you select E-sign option).

If you don't have a mobile number already linked with Aadhar number, then you cannot use the E- sign option .

Using (ll) and (lll) you don't need to send the documents by speed post as your identity has been verified using either "Digital signature certificate " (or) "Aadhar based E- Signature" and you will get your pan card with in 15 days to the Address that you mentioned in your PAN Application.

But if you don't want to use "digital signature certificate" (or) " E- Sign" option , then using (l) you need to send the documents by speed post to the address mentioned in the top. There after you will get your PAN card to your address that you mentioned in your PAN Application within 15 days.
