ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

1. ELECTRICAL MACHINES:
Overview of Electrical circuits Electrical Machines: Theory of operation of D.C. generator and motor - different types of generators and motors - speed control. (qualitative treatment only) Synchronous Machines: Theory of operation of alternator and synchronous motor.

2. TRANSFORMERS
Transformers: Principle of operation - voltage regulation - efficiency - All day efficiency - Basic principles of 3-phase transformers - welding transformers - furnace transformers. Induction Motors: Construction and principle of operation - speed control and starters - Qualitative information of various types of single phase induction motors.

3. ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS
p-n Junction diodes - Zener diodes - Transistors - JFETS - MOSFETS - Rectifiers - Silicon Controlled Rectifiers. Amplifiers - Voltage and power amplifiers - Feedback amplifiers and oscillators. (qualitative treatment only)

4. INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS
Industrial Electronics: Astable, monostable and Bistable multi-vibrators - Schmitt trigger circuit – saw-tooth generator - Synchronous weld control, synchronous timer – energy storage welding system - High frequency eddy current heating and high frequency power supply sources. - Spark gap oscillator circuit. (qualitative treatment only)

5. ELECTRONIC AND ELECTRICAL MEASURING INSTRUMENTS
Multimeters - DVM - Oscilloscope - Frequency counter - X-Y recorder (Qualitative analysis with block diagrams only). Sensitivity, input impedance, noise and other limitations. Construction and operating principles of induction type energy meters and dynamo meter type watt meters – types of errors.
