How to get LPG gas connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Inrtoduction

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a social welfare scheme of Government of India. It was launched on 1st May 2016 from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. Under this scheme, the government aims to provide LPG connections to below poverty line (BPL) households in the country. The scheme is aimed at replacing the conventional fossil fuel burning such as coal, kerosene, wood, uple. mostly used in the rural India. This scheme will provide 50 millions LPG connections in the name of women (Below Poverty Line) households across the country. The government has set a target of 50 millions LPG connections to be distributed by 2019.

Objectives of this scheme

  1. Protecting women's health from smoke and hazardous gases such as CO,SO2,coal gas etc.

  2. Reducing health hazards associated with cooking on fossil fuel such as kerosene and coke etc.

  3. Preventing people from acute respiratory disease caused due to smoke and inhaling the hazardous gases such as CO, SO2, coal gas etc.

  4. Easiness and satisfaction in cooking.

How to Apply for this scheme

The eligible below poverty line women can apply for the scheme by filling up the Ujjwala Yojana KYC application form".

Application for this scheme can also be downloaded online. Submit it to nearest LPG outlet along with required documents.

Eligibility for this scheme

Below are the eligibility criteria for the scheme.
  1. The applicant's name should be in the list of SECC (Socio-economic caste census)-2011 data.
    See the name in the SECC list visit www.secc.gov.in

  2. The women applicant should belong to below poverty line and should be above 18 years.

  3. The women should have a saving bank account in her name in nationalized bank.

  4. The applicant's household should not already own a LPG connection in anyone's name.

Documents required for Ujjwala Yojana

Documents to be attached along with the filled in application form.
  1. BPL Ration Card

  2. One Photo ID

  3. One Recent Passport Size Photo

Funding for Ujjwala Yojana

A total budgetary allocation of Rs. 8000 Crores has been made for this scheme. Implementation of the scheme will be in the next 3 years. The scheme will be implemented using the money saved in LPG subsidy through the "Give-it-Up" campaign.

Financial Assistance to beneficiaries

This scheme provides a financial support of Rs. 1600 for each connection to below poverty line(BPL) households. The Government will provide EMI facility (Installments) for meeting the cost of stove and refilling the gas cylinders.The scheme will be implemented and supervised by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. This Scheme would be implemented over the next three years (2016-2019).

The ujjawala Yojana policy

The main points of the policy are as under:
  1. selection of beneficiaries will be from BPL list, however the preference will be given SC/ST.

  2. The connection will be issued by oil marketing companies.

  3. If the state govt. NGOs, or individuals want to contribute towards the cost of stove and first refill, they are most welcome.

  4. In addition to the cost 1% IEC and 1% project management cost will be extra.

  5. .audit and verification will be done of the claims made by OMCs

  7. Dispute resolution if any will be done by ministry of petroleum and natural gas.

Conclusion

There are more than 240 million households in India. Out of which about 100 million households are still deprived of LPG gas connection. The Pradhan-Mantri Ujjwala-Yojana will reach to all the poor and needy families. The Mothers and The sisters will use clean fuel (LPG) in cooking their food. This will benefit in terms of health, easiness, satisfaction. This will also be helpful in curbing the fossil-fuel emissions.
