Introduction

India is a vast country, spanning from north to south and west to east, covering around 3000 km.There is a unity in diversity in India. India has a very rich cultural heritage. Visiting tourist places is very useful to enrich one's knowledge and experience. There are many benefits of tourism. Tourism provides employment to crores of people. I visited more than 50 cities in India during my last 25 years of journey.

How to plan a journey

If you want to visit a tourist destination, plan for it 2-3 months in advance. Get your tickets done well in time. Find the weather conditions of those places and plan accordingly. Take some emergency medicines and required clothing with you. Do not carry much cash and jewelry with you while on a journey. Take your photo identity (voter card/ pan card) for hotel booking and travelling purpose. Take some dry fruits, biscuits, water bottles, umbrella, scarf etc. with you before proceeding on a tour. Make a list of the places to be visited during the journey. Take the camera/ high pixel mobile phone for taking pictures and video recording.

Tourist destinations

I am dividing my all-India tours and the tourist destinations into 6 tourist circuits.
  1. North India-Roorkee, Delhi NCR, Bikaner, Kanpur, Varanasi

  2. East India- Kolkata, Bhuvneshwer, Puri and Konark

  3. North- East India-Guwahati, Hasimara, Shillong, Tuting, Baghdogra, Alipurdwar, India-Bhutan border

  4. Western India- Baroda, Bombay, Nasik, shirdi

  5. South India Part-I, Hyderabad, Tirupati, Bangalore, Mysore, Ooty

  6. South India Part-II, Chennai, Madurai, Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari, Kodaiknal, Pondicherry

Now I will explain about the tourist circuits mentioned above one by one.

North India tourist destination

Roorkee

Roorkee is in Uttarakhand near Haridwar. It is 28 km before Haridwar on Delhi -Haridwar national highway. This is a very beautiful city and housing IIT Roorkee & other educational institutions. I had lived there from 1987 to 1990. The popular nearby places are Piran-kaliyar, Hardwar, Rishikesh, Sharanpur, Muzaffarnagar. Baba-Ramdev's Patangali Ashram.

Delhi NCR tourist destinations

Delhi NCR covers Delhi, Guru Gram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida. Delhi has many attractions such as India gate, Rajghat, zoo, Lotus temple, Akshardham temple, Palam air force museum, Rastrapati Bhawan, Palika bazar, Caunought place etc.
Delhi Zoo is a good place to visit.



Bikaner and Deshnoke

Bikaner is a beautiful city of Rajasthan. The city was established in 1488 by Rao Bikaji. Some tourist attractions in Bikaner are Junagarh fort, Lalgarh palace, Bikaner camel safari, Gajner wild life sanctuary, Ganga Singh museum, Jain temple etc. Direct train service from Delhi to Bikaner and vice-versa is available. It has a very clean railway station and having many historical places to visit. Karni Devi is considered as the incarnation of Devi Durga. There is a Karni Devi temple in Deshnoke 30 km from Bikaner towards Barsinghshar. There is one small museum about Karni Devi in the temple. The life of Karni Devi is depicted in the museum. There are thousands of rats in this temple. People worship and feed the rats in this temple.

Kanpur tourist destinations

Kanpur is situated on the banks of river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh. Kanpur is a big industrial city. There are many famous things such as IIT Kanpur, air force station, leather refineries, Birla temple, zoo, cricket stadium, thaggu-ke-laddu. Visit the link Kanpur tourist places to see the photographs and other information about Kanpur. I lived there for 4 years. Lucknow is 90 km from Kanpur. There are many things to see such as Presidency, bhul-bhuliya, Imambada, Vidhansabha. Allahabad is 180 km from Kanpur and it is an education hub for civil service preparation. UPPSC Interview board is also in Allahabad. Anand Bhawan, Sangam ghat, Takshakvan also worth to visit.

Varanasi

I visited Varanasi twice. The temple of Kasi-Vishvanath of Lord Shiva is very famous. Ganga ghats and Ganga Arti is another attraction. Sarnath is 20 km from Varanasi railway station and has many places to visit.

East India tourist destinations

Kolkata

I visited Kolkata twice. There are many tourist destinations worth to visit. Victoria memorial is the best place to visit. Some other places are planetarium, Howrah Bridge and the banks of Ganga near Howrah Bridge. Boating in Ganga is a pleasureful exercise.

Bhubaneswar

I visited Bhubaneswar in 2008. There are some places to see such as Lingraj temple, Iskon temple, Shaheed memorial in Sainik School. I also visited Jagannath temple and the beach in Puri. Lord Jagannath darshan is very useful and wonderful. There may be a long queue for darshan. Tourists may offer worship inside the temple. The Prasad is cooked in a special manner in five- six earthen pots are kept on each other and the heat is supplied from the bottom pot. Konark

Sun temple of Konark is world famous temple. The Sun temple is dedicated to Lord Surya. There are nine planets temple in the same compound. Pandit Ji (priest) is available for pujas. One should offer worship to nine planets to get the best result from your horoscope. Real moti (pearls) are also available at the cheap price. Sun temple of Konark is situated at the beach and is having beautiful gardens in its compound.
