Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India invites applications from eligible candidates to apply for the TATA Innovation Fellowship 2016-2017. The aim of the Fellowship is to reward scientists who have an outstanding record in biological sciences & have committed to finding innovative solutions to major problems in agriculture, health care & fields related to science and technology. The Fellowship will thus reward interdisciplinary work with emphasis on innovation and translational research with a potential towards commercialization.

Fellowship features

  1. Number of fellowships: There are five fellowships offered per year.

  2. Duration: The duration of the fellowship is 3 years, which may be extended for a further 2 years on a fresh appraisal.

  3. Amount: The amount of the Fellowship is Rs.25,000/- per month in addition to regular salary from the host institute. If you are receiving salary from an international organization, you will be entitled for research grant, that is, contingency only.

  4. Contingency grant: You will receive also a contingency grant of Rs.6 lakh per annum to meet the expenses incurred on consummables, equipment, international and domestic travel, manpower and other expenditure which is incurred with the implementation of ongoing research project under the fellowship.

  5. Other grants: You would be eligible for other regular research grant(s) through extramural and other research schemes of various science and technology agencies of the Government of India.

  6. Host institution: You will continue to work at the place of your employment. The host institute where you are working will provide the necessary infrastructure and administrative support for pursuing research under this fellowship.




Eligibility requirements

  1. Nationality: You should be an Indian national residing in India, having spent at least 5 years in India before applying for the fellowship.

  2. Age: You should be below the age of 55 years as on 21st November 2016. The fellowship is co-terminus with the superannuation of the Fellow in his/her organization.

  3. Academic qualification: You should have a Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary Science
    OR
    You should have a Master's Degree in Medical Sciences, Engineering or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology/related areas.

  4. Publications: You should have an outstanding contribution and publication in the specific area.

  5. Experience: You should have a regular permanent position in a University/Institution/Organization and should be engaged in research and development.

Note: If you are availing of any other Fellowship, you should opt for either that one or this one.

  1. You must fill up the application (6 copies) on the prescribed proforma application form for the TATA Innovation Fellowship 2016-2017 which can be downloaded from the official website.

  2. The completed application must be duly forwarded by the competent authority to:
