Procedure of online application for PAN (Permanent Account Number) card


PAN (Permanent Account Number) card number is asked every where, but there is no awareness program regarding PAN card application or how to make PAN card. This article explains the procedure to get the PAN card at your address. A minor (below the age of 18 years) can also apply for PAN card.

How to apply for PAN card online


To get a fresh PAN card an individual has to apply online. Internet connection to your PC or smart Mobile phone must be there. You can click the link provided and visit the official website of Income Tax Department of Government of India. www. incometaxindia.gov.in After clicking the link on home page of website you will find important links. Under the important links open "Apply for PAN". "PAN online application" page opens. First go through the instructions. Then click the link Apply online page opens. Before filling the online application form, please go through the various links like, Read Guidelines, Read Instructions, Documents to be submitted and do's/don'ts.

Guidelines for filling online application


Fill up the form in English only. When you are filling the information in the box provided, leave a box blank after each word, number and punctuation mark. Those who are already having PAN card can not apply again for fresh PAN card. Instead they can apply for re-issue or correction in PAN data if any.
There are various types of forms available to be filled online but Indian citizens have to fill up form 49A only.
  1. Fill the form and submit it online.

  2. If the details filled in online application is not correct, error message will display on the screen. Correct the error and re submit the form.

  3. If there is no error in the the form then after clicking submit button "edit" or "confirm" option will appear.

  4. If there is no need to edit then submit the form by clicking submit button.


Fee payment procedure for online application


For Indian citizen payment of Rs. 107/- to be made against processing the application and postal charges if address is within India. Payment can be done by :-
  1. Net banking

  2. Debit card

  3. credit card

  4. Demand Draft.


Acknowledgement of online application


After successful payment of fee an acknowledgement of online application will be generated. Take the printout of acknowledgement copy. Acknowledgement will have the following information as you have provided in application form.
  1. 15 digit unique number of application

  2. Category of applicant

  3. Name of applicant

  4. Father's name

  5. Date of birth

  6. Address for communication

  7. Space for photograph

  8. Details of payment

  9. Space for signature

  10. Aadhaar number and

  11. Details of ID proof and address proof


Dispatching documents by post


Applicant has to save and take printout of acknowledgement copy. Individual applicant has to paste 02 passport size color photograph on acknowledgement copy. Photograph should be of light background. Do not staple photograph. Use good quality photograph, because clarity of image on your PAN card depend on the quality of photograph you have affixed on the acknowledgement. Signature or thumb impression is must on the acknowledgement copy and it should be within the box provided for it. If you are giving thumb impression, it should be attested by a Magistrate or public Notary or Gazetted Officer. Do not forget to put official seal and stamp.

Note

If the applicant is minor i.e. below the age of 18 years, will be issued with a PAN card without photograph image on it. In the case of minor applicant ID proof and address proof of any of the parents will be accepted. After attaining the age of 18 years again the individual has to apply for correction in PAN card.

How to submit the documents to the office of Income Tax Department

Acknowledgement form completed in all the respect along with Demand Draft( if payment is not done by net banking or debit/credit card), ID proof, and address proof is to be enclosed along with acknowledgement copy. Address is given on the acknowledgement copy where all the documents have to be dispatched. Individual can get the address by visiting the website of Income Tax Department of Government of India. If you have mentioned Aadhaar number in the online application then enclose the copy of Aadhaar card also. Envelope in which you are enclosing all the documents, must be superscribed as "APPLICATION FOR PAN AND 15 digit acknowledgement number starting with N".
Few days after sending the acknowledgement along with documents, you will be updated with the status of your application through sms(short messaging service) and E-mail provided by you in the online application form. If the information furnished in form 49A and copy of ID proof, address proof and Aadhar card provided by you are correct then PAN card will be dispatched to your address within two weeks.
